Marty Smith – Bio

The ESPN reporter hails from Pearisburg, in Virginia, in the United States. He was born in the year 1976, precisely on the 15th day of April. Not much is known about his childhood, however, reports have it that Smith developed a penchant for sporting events, especially football in his young age.

The American journalist received his high school education at the prestigious Giles High School, in Virginia, after which he was admitted in Radford University to further his studies. During his high school days, Marty Smith was part of Giles High School’s basketball, baseball, and football teams. He was part of the Giles’ football team that won the state championship in the year 1993.

Prior to fame, the sports reporter worked as a sports analyst for daily newspapers in Lynchburg and Roanoke, after which he was hired as a senior writer for NASCAR.com, a NASCAR analyst on Fox Sports Net.

Smith’s journalism career moved to a higher level after he joined ESPN as a NASCAR reporter in the year 2006. From 2007 to 2014, the journalist spearheaded ESPN’s NASCAR reporting program for NASCAR Now, NASCAR Countdown, and SportsCenter.

Smith’s dad, Leo Smith, died in the year 2008. Prior to his death, he was a big fan of the Virginia Tech football, as he was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The name of the journalist’s mom is Joy Massey Smith. She died of cancer in the year 1998.

The ESPN host has always mentioned car racing driver Davey Allison as his brother and childhood hero. Davey, a well-loved driving legend, died on 13th July 1993 at the age of 32 in an air crash. He was recently inducted into NASCAR Hall of Fame.
