Maury Povich is popularly on TV for hosting the tabloid talk show Maury from 1991 to 1998.

He was born on January 17, 1939, in Washington, D.C, to Jewish parents Ethyl (née Friedman) and Shirley Povich.
He is the second of three children born to the former Washington Post sportswriter and his wife. Maury is a graduate of the Landon School and of the University of Pennsylvania where he bagged a degree in television journalism.
Povich began his career as soon as he graduated from college and his first job was with Washington, D.C., radio station WWDC, as publicity officer and a reporter. By 1967, he began co-hosting the network’s talk show Panorama.
The show brought him so much fame and popularity. Between 1977 and 1983, he worked as a news anchor in the network’s stations located in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, New York and Philadelphia before he finally moved back to the Washington, D.C. station in June 1983.
In 1986, he began hosting a tabloid infotainment show that focused on celebrity gossip A Current Affair on Metromedia, he hosted the show until 1991 when he began hosting his own show The Maury Povich Show, a nationally syndicated show which aired from 1991 to 1998.
In 1998, the show was taken over by Studios USA and renamed simply as Maury. The show was also redefined to feature a segment called Who’s the Daddy?, in this segment, men who were denying or trying to establish paternity of a child were given DNA tests and the results were revealed on the air. In 2000, Povich hosted the short-lived classic game show Twenty One which aired on NBC.
In 2005, MSNBC announced that Maury Povich would be co-hosting a weekend news program alongside his wife, Connie Chung. The news program – Weekends with Maury and Connie which began airing in January of 2000 was cancelled in June of the same year due to low ratings.
He also anchored newscasts at WNYW and made a guest appearance on The Jack and Triumph Show. In 2007, Povich launched a weekly print newspaper and online news source Flathead Beacon in Montana.
He featured in an episode of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother as a New Yorker who is seen in several places at once. He was also in the film Madea’s Big Happy Family.
Povich served twice as president of the New York chapter of the National Television Academy. In 1995, he was honoured by New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for raising awareness for the National Adoption Month.

Maury has been married twice. His first marriage was to Phyllis Minkoff. The couple got married in 1962 but unfortunately, the marriage ended in a sad divorce. They, however, have two daughters (Susan Anne and Amy Joyce Povich) together. Amy is married to U.S physician and bestselling author David Agus.
In 1984, Maury remarried, this time to news anchor/journalist . The couple met while they were both working with at WTTG-TV in Washington. Chung was a copygirl at the time and Povich was a co-anchor and still married to his first wife.
Chung later relocated to Los Angeles and they met again when Povich also moved to Los Angeles and worked at KNXT-TV. After Povich was fired from the station, he left to work in San Francisco and then Philadelphia. Fate brought them together again in 1984, they got married and are still together ever since.
In 1995, the couple adopted a son, Matthew Jay Povich, thus, altogether, Povich has three children.
