Melia Mcenery may not ring a bell till her husband’s name Eric Clapton – a popular British musician is mentioned. We can conveniently surmise that Melia is one of the privileged few who tasted fame from association with the famous. Presently, she is best known as the current wife of the renowned English rock guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist – Eric Clapton.
Aside from her celebrity status, Melia is also a humanitarian and a socialist who takes out time to work with Crossroads Center located in Antigua Island – a medical facility established by her husband in 1998 that is charged with the responsibility of assisting drug addicts and alcoholics on their journey to recovery. Melia Mcenery came into the world on the 1st of February 1976 and her place of birth is in Columbus, Ohio, which makes her an American national. Her dad, Walter is of Scottish-English descent and earned a living working in construction and though the identity of her mum was not revealed, it is gathered that she is of Korean-Irish heritage.
With regards to her early education, we learned that she achieved it at Bishop Watterson High School where she graduated from in 1995. Melia Mcenery then preceded Ohio University graduating with a BA in arts and upon her graduation, she moved to California where she worked odd jobs in her first two years but was later employed by Armani.
Relationship With Eric Clapton, Age Difference
In 1999, Melia Mcenery met 53-year-old English musician Eric Clapton at a party hosted by Armani in Columbus, Ohio in Eric’s honor to celebrate a successful performance – Melia had just turned 22 at the time. Reportedly, Melia was under strict orders to keep away from the guests but she still mustered up enough courage to approach Eric for an autograph meant for her uncle.
Eric who was reputed to be a renowned womanizer told the press that something very strong drew him to her and he resolved to behave in a gentlemanly way from the first encounter.
Eric and Melia later developed a genuine interest in each other after that brief introduction which prompted them to have a dinner date and after the first date, the duo was hooked forever despite the 31 years age gap between them.
However, they broke up a year into their relationship due to the stressful demands of the singer’s career but late in 2000, they mended their relationship and their first child was already on the way – a daughter named Julie Rose in memory of Eric’s late grandmother.
He subsequently popped the big question to Melia Mcenery within a week of his daughter’s delivery at her family home located in Columbus, Ohio, during the Father’s Day celebration. The next year, on the 1st of January 2002, their relationship culminated in a low-key marriage ceremony at the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene located in Ripley, Surrey which happened to be Eric’s birthplace.
It is interesting to know that the guests came with the belief that it was a christening ceremony for their daughter who was then six months old but they were surprised with a wedding ceremony. However, the baby, Julie Rose and Eric’s 16-year old daughter, Ruth Kelly Clapton whom he had out of wedlock with Yvonne Kelly were baptized at the wedding ceremony.
On his own part, Eric Clapton has been involved with a lot of women in the past and his first marriage is known to have been to British photographer and model, Pattie Boyd. The marriage lasted from March 1979 to June 1989. Moreso, the randy singer and musician has also dated the Italian model, Lory Del Santo and was also romantically involved with Yvonne Kelly with whom he had his daughter, Ruth. However, Eric finally found his missing rib in Melia Mcenery and it’s little wonder the pair have been together for such a long time now.
It is also worthy to note that Eric and Melia are parents to two other beautiful daughters aside from Julie Rose Clapton. The other two daughters are Ella May (who was born on the 14th of January 2003), and Sophie Belle (who was born on the 1st of February 2005).
