Method Man whose original name is Clifford Smith was born on March 2, 1971, in Hempstead, Long Island, New York. His parents got divorced when he was a child and so he grew up between staying with his father in Long Island and staying with his mother in the Park Hill section of Staten Island.
The 6′ 3″ rapper has two sisters Terri Smith and Missy Smith. He got his stage name “Method Man” from a 1979 movie of the same title. He is a rapper, actor, producer and a member of the East Coast hip-hop group, Wu-Tang Clan.

Method Man was the first solo star to emerge from the Wu-Tang Clan. His rhymes made him noticeable and unpredictable and this got people to love his music. He signed up with rap label, Def Jam Recordings although he had other offers from other labels like Elektra Records. His debut album, Tical, which dropped in 1994, sold over a million copies, entered #4 on the American charts and went platinum. The album featured the hit single “I’ll Be There For You/You Are All I Need which won a Grammy after being remixed with . He later released other singles like Bring the Pain and Release Yo’ Delf which gave him a bigger name in the hip-hop industry and from there on, Method Man started making guest appearances on other artists’ albums. He featured in Notorious B.I.G’s debut album “Ready to Die” and also in Tupac Shakur’s album “All Eyez on Me”.
On June 3, 1997, The Wu-Tang Clan released their Wu-Tang Forever album which was nominated in the Grammy. The album sold over 8.3 million copies worldwide. Method unveiled his second album Tical 2000: Judgment Day, which was released in 1998. The album was certified double platinum and also had guest appearances by the likes of D’Angelo, , Redman, , , etc. This album sold better than his first album. He was also part of the Hard Knock Tour with other artists like The famous Jarule, DMX, and Redman. It was during one of the tour’s that Method Man and Redman recorded “Blackout” and just like other albums, it was a success.
In 2004, He released his third solo album Tical 0: The Prequel which featured the hit party single “Whats Happenin” which he sang with Busta Rhymes. The album was criticized and Method blamed Sean Combs aka P. Diddy, who was the producer. In August 2006, Method Man released his fourth album, 4:21: The Day After. He was more focused this time even to the notice of fans and the media. The album, unlike the rest, did not really sell because it did not have any video or single. He was not happy with his label and tried his best to promote the album on his own. Method man’s upcoming fifth album is titled Crystal Meth. Many fans have been waiting for the release since 2010 but as of early 2018, the album is yet to see the light of day. The rapper cum actor has an estimated net worth of $20 million.

Method Man is married to Tamika Smith who he engaged in 1999. The couple got married in 2001 and the marriage is blessed with three children. Sha, who was born in 1996, Raekwon, born in 1997 and Cheyenne, born in 1997. Tamika Smith is a businesswoman, she owns a small business in the beauty industry and is taking a course in entrepreneurship at the College of Staten Island. Before becoming a businesswoman, she once worked as a personal assistant to her husband and has also worked with adults with physical disabilities or learning disabilities. Tamika is a cancer survivor, she beat cancer to remission. He has had Legal Problems
Just like most rappers we know, Method Man has not been any different. He too has had legal troubles. On May 17, 2007, he was arrested in New York City for the unlawful possession of marijuana. He was pulled over by an officer for having an expired inspection sticker and on approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed he was in possession of a bag containing marijuana and was also smoking it. He was charged and found guilty. His lawyer reached a plea agreement and he was ordered to perform community service and write songs on the dangers of drugs which he would rap to young kids.
On October 2009, Method was arrested in his house for income tax violations which he pleaded guilty to and later paid a fine of $106,000.

Method Man loves privacy and only gives out information which he wants you to know which was why he got angry with Wendy Williams when she leaked the information that his wife, Tamika was suffering from cancer. According to Method, this was a secret that even his close friends were not aware of. He later talked about how his wife battled with cancer saying she is the strongest person on the planet.
