Not many people who were born in the year 1989 have the ability to hit the tee from three hundred yards away but for one born precisely on the 11th of October in Honolulu Hawai, Wie does it effortlessly to the admiration and amazement of golf enthusiasts and casual lookers. Michelle Wie is of South Korean ethnicity but holds American nationality. She renounced her South Korean citizenship in February 2013.

Her Korean birth name is Wie Seong-mi Hangul but in the US, the country of her birth, we call her Michelle Sung Wie or more easily Michelle Wie.

Born in the US, Michelle as well had her education here. She had her high school education at Punahou School in Honolulu from where she graduated in 2007 before enrolling to study at Stanford University which her South Korean family has ties to. Her schooling didn’t put an end to her golf interest despite the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) rules making her ineligible to play in Stanford’s golf team.

In her first three years as an undergraduate, she only attended classes in the fall and winter as she took leave of absence to play golf outside campus as a professional. Nevertheless, Michelle Wie finished college in March 2012 and graduated with a major in communications by June.

Parents 

Michelle’s parents are both South Korean’s who migrated to the States in the 1980s. Her father Wie Byung-work was a professor of travel industry management at the University of Hawaii while her mother Bo Wie was 1985 South Korean Amateur Women Golf Champion in addition to being a former Miss Korea.

Our findings revealed that Michelle Wie’s family is one filled with erudites as her paternal grandfather Dr. Sang-Kyu Wie was an emeritus professor at Seoul National University, just as her father was also a professor and an aunt and uncle of her’s are both college graduates.

Michelle’s Golf Career

Like most other athelets, Michelle started participating in the sports from a very young age, she played amateur golf from the age of 10 and became the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.

Being a young player didn’t mean the South Korean native was simply playing for fun, she hit the ground running and by her 13th birthday, she won the Hawaii State Open, Women’s Division golf competition in 2002 followed by her 2003 win of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links and Curtis Cup win in 2004. Having achieved such great records as an amateur player, she didn’t need a soothsayer to tell her to begin playing as a professional afterward.

As a professional female golfer starting from 2005, Michelle Wie began touring for the likes of Casio World Open, John Deere Classic, and Sony Open in Hawai. She won her first professional tournament in 2014 in the US Women’s Open and finished second in the ANA Inspiration of that same year. In all, she has recorded five professional wins four of which are LPGA tours; Lorena Ochoa Invitational (Nov 15, 2009), CN Canadian Women’s Open (Aug 29, 2010), LPGA Lotte Championship (Apr 19, 2014) and HSBC Women’s World Championship (Mar 4, 2018). Her only championship win, for now, is the U.S. Women’s Open (Jun 22, 2014). In recognition of her accomplishments, she has won awards and honors like the Member, U.S. Solheim Cup team, in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and Member, Curtis Cup team, 2004. Her awards also boast of Laureus World Sports Award for Breakthrough of the Year 2004 and Best Female Golfer ESPY Award which she won 10 years later in 2014.

Her Boyfriend, is she Married or Gay?

Being a successful sportswoman haven’t deprived Michelle Wie of love. Her love interest at a time was Robin Lopez a basketball player for Portland Trail Blazers. Her relationship with him was said to have lasted only but for a couple of months in 2008.

However, Michelle has been known to maintain a low public profile when it comes to love and romance. Her publicly known love interest now is Adam Zahn a former basketball player and her fans still strongly believe that they are still together though not yet married.
