The famous American Football coach Mike Tomlin is one of the highly admired coaches in the history of American football not just because he is the 40th coach in NFL history to win 100 games, but also because he won these games faster than his predecessors.
Having been coaching since 1995, Tomlin is currently the head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers – a position he took up at the age of 35. He became the third head coach to be hired by the Steelers since 1969 and by 2009, after the victory in Super Bowl XLIII, he was named the youngest head coach in NFL’s history to lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl championship.
Biography
The American football coach, Michael Pettaway Tomlin was born on March 15, 1972, in Hampton, Virginia. He was born into a football-loving family with his father, Ed Tomlin, being a renowned player in the 1960s. He high school education at Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia and graduated in 1990 before joining the College of William and Mary where he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity- a collegiate Greek-letter fraternity founded in 1911 by Elder Watson Diggs, also known as ‘The Dreamer’ and a host of ten African-American college students. He later graduated from the University with a Sociology degree.

Coaching Career
Mike Tomlin’s career as a coach began n 1995 when he became the wide receiver coach at Virginia Military Institute. The following year, he worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Memphis. There, he also had the opportunity to coach Special teams and the defensive backs. In 1997, he moved to Arkansas State University where he was first hired as the wide receiver coach and later as defensive backs coach. He was also hired by the Arkansas State University to coach its defensive backs. He served there for two years before moving to the University of Cincinnati which hired him in 1999 to coach their defensive backs.
2001 to 2005 was one of Tomlin’s successful years as it marked his first position in the National Football League (NFL) as Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs coach. There, he learned the Tampa 2 defence which later helped him throughout his coaching career.
The Pittsburgh Steelers hired Mike Tomlin on January 22, 2007, as the 16th head coach after the team’s coach Bill Cowher resigned. All through Mike Tomlin’s first ten seasons, he was able to successfully accomplish many things that were hardly accomplished in the NFL history. Not only was he the first African-American head coach in the history of Pittsburgh Steelers and the 10th in the NFL, he also became the youngest and the fastest NFL coach to win a Super Bowl when his team, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 at Super Bowl XLIII. On October 29, 2017, he has officially announced the 3rd coach in the history of the National Football League to finish with a better record in his first ten seasons with one team. He came behind John Madden (Raiders coach) and Curly Lambeau (Packers coach) who came first and second, respectively. In addition to this, Mike is the second Steelers coach to win three division titles in the first four seasons.

Mike Tomlin Family – Wife and Kids
Mike grew up with his older brother Eddie, their father Ed Tomlin and their mother Julia. His father played for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League before his death in January 2012 from a heart attack in Ocala, Florida. Tomlin was then raised by his mother and stepfather Leslie Copeland.
The Young and handsome-looking coach is married to his longtime girlfriend, Kiya Winston who he met while he was still at The College of William & Mary.
Kiya also attended William & Mary where she was a gymnast and a pre-med student. The two fell in love and got married in 1996, a year after their graduation. Since then, they have been living together and supporting each other through each phase of their career.
While Tom was working with the University of Cincinnati, his wife then decided to pursue her calling as a dressmaker. She was admitted to the university to take a degree in fashion design at the school’s College of Design, Art and Architectural Planning.
Mike Tomlin and his wife Kiya are blessed with three children – a girl born 2006 and named Harlyn Quinn and two sons – Michael Dean, born in 2000, and Mason, born in 2002. He currently lives with his family in the Squirrel Hill neighbourhood of Pittsburgh. His wife owns a fashion company called Uptown Sweats which focuses on modern custom clothes for older women.
