Montel Williams is best known for his eponymous TV talk show, The Montel Williams Show which regardless of the occasional criticisms it drew, went on to become very successful, running for a whopping 17 seasons and earning Williams a couple of awards including a Daytime Emmy Award. The syndicated show ended in 2008 after which its creator went on to pursue other interests.

Montel Williams Bio (Age)

Williams was born on the 3rd of July 1956 and was named Montel Brian Anthony Williams by his father Herman Williams Jr., he has 5 siblings. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Williams attended Andover High School located in the nearby Linthicum, Maryland. He was highly active during his high school years serving as the class president from junior to senior year, participating in school sports and musical events.

He graduated from high school in 1974 after which he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Wiliams would go on to become the first African-American to graduate from both the Naval Academy Preparatory School and the U.S. Naval Academy. He earned a degree in general engineering and a minor in international security affairs.

For the most part of his service, Montel Williams served as a Cryptologic Officer and spent years in submarines. He served for a whopping 15 years retiring at the rank of lieutenant commander. As the team leader of his crew in the Naval Security Fleet Support Division, Williams discovered his flair for public speaking with emphasis on youth issues.

This would inspire him to start The Montel Williams show which was syndicated by CBS. Williams slowly dabbled in other fields of entertainment including acting. After his show ended, Monte Williams became focused on working as a spokesperson for the likes of MoneyMutual and Card Geniuses, a poker instruction company. He has also hosted a couple of infomercials.

Wife and Children

Montel Williams has romanced many women in his lifetime, three of which he has taken to the altar. As of this writing, the Army veteran is married to Tara Fowler, a former American Airlines flight attendant.

Williams popped the question to her in July 2006 in the presence of family and friends while they were out on a dinner in a Manhattan restaurant. A little over a year later, in October 2007, the couple got married in a small ceremony held on a beach in Bermuda. The couple has had no kids together.

 

Before Tara came along, Williams was with two other women with whom he fathered four children.

His first marriage to Rochele See which lasted from 1982 to 1989 produced two children, daughters; Ashley Williams and Maressa Williams born in 1984 and 1988 respectively. Maressa has successfully won two bouts with cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma aka cancer of the lymph tissue in 2013. The cancer was discovered after she injured her spine in an accidental fall in October 2013 and required several MRIs to determine the diagnosis. Maressa successfully fought the ailment the first time but it reappeared a second time and again, she emerged victoriously.

Her struggles with the disease would inspire her to begin a career in healthcare. She is a nursing student and now dedicates most of her time serving as an ambassador for the Lymphoma Research Foundation. She has documented her experience on blog posts including for Dr. Oz.

Wiliams’ other daughter Ashley is a professional make up artist who studied at the Makeup Designory.

Williams second marriage to Grace Morley which lasted from 1992 to 2000 produced two children as well; a son, Montel Brian Hank Williams and a daughter named Wyntergrace Williams, born in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Montel Williams Jr is an MMA fighter while Wyntergrace is a budding Hollywood actress.

Is He Gay?

As far as facts go, Montel Williams is not gay but a very straight man. His multiple marriages to women are a great attestation to that fact. However, he is an avid supporter of LGBT rights which sometimes make people wonder if he is gay himself.

Williams once after plans that he’d speak on an LGBT speech he gave earlier in the day changed without prior notice.

Death

Montel Williams isn’t dead but sadly not so well. Since 1999, the TV personality has been living with multiple sclerosis. Williams had a near death experience in May 2018 after he found himself in the ER shortly after working out alone in a gym at his New York City hotel. The case was diagnosed as a hemorrhagic stroke. He narrated to  in October 2018 how lucky he was to have survived the life-threatening illness. In a bid to help others, Williams founded the nonprofit Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. He is an advocate for the use of medical marijuana which he uses as part of his treatment to fight multiple sclerosis.
