When he announced his retirement in 2003, it was the end of a career that had seen and achieved everything. The end of a path that started 24 years after his birth in Fountainbridge in Scotland on the 25th of August, 1930. He was born to an ordinary family; one where his father, Joseph Connery worked as a lorry driver and factory worker while his mother, Euphemia McBain worked as a cleaning woman. He was raised by his parents along with a younger sibling, his brother, Neil Connery.

He got his first job as a milkman and later joined the Royal Navy, where he spent a short time before he discharged on health grounds. He starred in his first James Bond film, as the first actor to portray the character in a film in Dr. No which was released in 1962. All seven films were commercially successful and elevated Sean Connery to a cult hero among film fans all over the globe. His performances and success of the films got him selected by the American Film Institute as the third-greatest hero in cinema history.
Although his career was pretty much defined by his Bond character, he starred in other iconic films, such as The Untouchables, which earned him his Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Name of Rose, The Hunt of Red October and many others.
He announced his official retirement from acting in 2007 although he stopped making films in 2003.
