Sean Lee is an athlete who plays American football for the National Football league (NFL) franchise, Dallas Cowboys as a linebacker. Before he began his professional football career with the Cowboys, Lee played college football with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Born on July 22, 1986, as Sean Patrick Lee, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lee hails from a family of legal luminaries. His parents are Craig and Geralyn Lee and he has two siblings – an older brother, Conor Lee and a sister, Alexandra Lee.
As mentioned earlier, his extended family is heavily associated with the legal profession while his immediate family chose to carve their own path in athletics. Although his father is a lawyer, Sean Lee and his siblings are all professional athletes (See the subtitle “Family – Siblings, Parents” below).
Lee attended Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and there, he played basketball and football. In basketball, Lee helped the school to a district title in his senior year while averaging 21.2 points, 3.2 assists and 9.1 rebounds as a point guard while also recording even better stats in football. He recorded 95 tackles, rushed for 1,240 yards and attained 21 touchdowns as a safety, also in his senior year.
His dedication to sports (two of them for that matter) did not affect his academics as he had a 3.78 GPA and scored 1110 on the SAT. Despite this, he was overlooked by the big colleges with better football programs during the recruitment season. However, he enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University on a football scholarship and teamed up with the Nittany Lions who were managed by coach Joe Paterno at the time.
He played as an outside linebacker for the team in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He had an impressive junior season before being shut out of the game by injury to the right knee. He tore his ACL and was redshirted for the rest of the season
About Sean Lee’s Professional Career
In the 2010 NFL Draft, Lee was selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the 55th overall pick in the 2nd round and he signed a 4-year contract in the same year. The contract was worth $3.49 million with a sign on bonus and guaranteed sum of $1.20 million and $1.71 million respectively. His drop to the 2nd round of the draft was plainly due to his persistent injuries and they continued in his rookie season in the league, keeping him off the action for the most part of the period.
Despite his injury woes in his rookie season, Sean Lee’s performance, especially against the Indianapolis Colts on December 5, 2010, earned him the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Lee recorded two interceptions (his first since joining the Cowboys) against the -led Colts.
In his sophomore season, he was moved to play inside linebacker. It was a move that paid off as he thrived in the role, winning the NFC Defensive Player of the Month honors for his 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, 36 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and three pass breakups. He became the first player in the history of the Dallas Cowboys to win the award. He would, however, end the season on the injury list for a wrist injury.
He bounced back the following season, in 2012, with four interceptions and 131 tackles. One of his four interceptions was against and with that, he became the second linebacker to get one over both and in terms of interceptions. He got a contract extension in 2013 as he signed a 6-year deal worth $42 million with a $10 million signing bonus. He went on to get another NFC Defensive Player of the Month award in Week 8 of that season.
Family – Siblings, Parents
Craig Lee and Geralyn Lee are parents to Dallas Cowboys linebacker, Sean Lee. He has two siblings who are also athletes. His older brother, Conor Lee, played college football and was a placekicker (PK) for the University of Pittsburgh football team known as the Pittsburgh Panthers. While he was with the Panthers, he’s known to have set a number of school records. His sister, Alexandra, participated in athletics in Upper St. Clair High School as a student-athlete.
Even though Lee prefers the shoulder pads, his family (extended family, at least) are people of the wig. His grandfather is Donald J. Lee, who was a former federal judge in the United States and all his sons – Lee’s father, Craig, and uncles, Christopher and Kevin also prefer the suits, the tie, and the wig.
Who is Meagan McShane – Sean Lee’s Wife?
Sean Lee is definitely the toast of many ladies because of his handsome looks. It is, however, good to note that Lee is off the relationship market. The linebacker is happily married to Meagan McShane. Not much is known about Lee’s wife and details of their relationship and how they met. However, the couple tied the nuptial knot on the 22nd of March 2014.
And while they have no children yet, the lovebirds have a dog named Finn and Meagan has often referred to the dog as a her “best friend.” In case you are wondering what her husband is if Finn is her best friend, she says, Sean Lee is her “second best friend.”
