Shane McMahon is an American-born pro wrestler, businessman and TV personality. He is a part owner of the foremost professional wrestling media company WWE among several other business interests. He serves as the storyline commissioner on the weekly WWE TV show SmackDown Live.

A 4th generation member of the McMahon dynasty of wrestling promoters, Shane McMahon started working in the merchandise warehouse of the WWE company as a teenager. He also served as referee, announcer and producer before he eventually became an on-screen performer. As a professional wrestler, Shane McMahon won the European Championship as well as the Hardcore Championship. He resigned from the WWE in January 2010, however, he returned to the company in February 2016 as an on-screen character.

On January 15, 1970, the pro wrestler was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland to Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon. He was given the name Shane Brandon McMahon at birth. He was raised alongside one sibling, a sister named Stephanie McMahon. He had his high school education at Greenwich High in Greenwich, Connecticut. Upon graduation, he had his college education at Boston University where he studied business and communications.

As a teenager, Shane McMahon was already involved with the WWE company, working as an attendant in the company’s merchandise store. Starting from the late 80s, he served as a WWE referee under the stage moniker Shane Stevens. He officiated a number of high-profile events including the WrestleMania VI, the 1991 Royal Rumble match as well as the WrestleMania VIII.

Also serving as a company executive, Shane McMahon became a regular character on WWF (now WWE) in the late 90s. As a wrestler, McMahon’s storylines regularly involved several members of his family including his dad, Vince McMahon Jr., his mum Linda as well as his sister Stephanie McMahon. In October 2009, Shane announced his resignation from WWE. He went on to serve as the CEO of Chinese-based media company “YOU On Demand” between 2010 and 2013.

After a nearly 7-year hiatus from pro wrestling, Shane McMahon made an official return to the WWE on February 22, 2016. In July 2017, he was appointed as storyline commissioner of WWE SmackDown. He has continued in this capacity ever since with sporadic in-ring appearances as a professional wrestler.

Shane McMahon comes from a dynasty of business magnates predominantly involved in the wrestling promotion. He is the son of popular wrestling promoter and business mogul, Vince McMahon and his wife Linda McMahon who is also a professional wrestling magnate. In the world of Pro Wrestling, the McMahons are considered to be royalty.

The first McMahon known to be involved in wrestling was Jess McMahon, the great-grandfather of Shane McMahon. In 1953, Jess McMahon co-founded the Capitol Wrestling Corporation and upon his death, the company was transferred to his son Vincent J. McMahon, the grandfather of Shane McMahon. The company was later renamed to World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) and eventually to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). When Vince Sr. retired in 1982, the company was bought over by his son Vince Kennedy McMahon. World Wrestling Federation (WWF) has since been renamed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) with Vince McMahon Jr. serving as the chairman and CEO of the company.

Just like the rest of the family, Shane McMahon’s sister Stephanie McMahon Levesque is also involved in the WWE company. She is married to professional wrestler Paul Levesque best known by his stage moniker Triple H.

Shane McMahon is married to film producer and former TV host . Their relationship is somewhat of a fairytale as the two have known each other since they were kids. According to Shane, his wife Marissa is the only girlfriend he has ever had. The couple tied the knot on September 14, 1996. Marissa Mazzola founded the production company Kamala Films in 2005. Prior to that, she served as the director of public relations for WWE.

The couple has 3 children together. On February 13, 2004, they welcomed their first child, a son named Declan James. On March 26, 2006, they welcomed their second child, another son named Kenyon “Kenny” Jess. The couple’s third child, also a son, Rogan Henry was born on January 20, 2010. Shane McMahon was accompanied to the ring by all 3 of his sons for his match against  at WrestleMania 32.

In addition to his role as a minority owner of the WWE company, Shane McMahon also doubles as an on-screen commissioner on WWE’s weekly television show SmackDown Live. These roles coupled with his in-ring performances as an occasional wrestler makes him one of the top earners in the WWE brand. In 2016, McMahon earned as much as $2.2 million and was ranked 7th on the list of highest paid wrestlers for the year. In 2017, he was still among the highest earners even though his total earnings dropped to $1.3 million. The net worth of Shane McMahon is estimated to be a whopping $35 million.
