His other, all older siblings include Randy, Scott, and Shari. He had a peculiar upbringing that one would say influenced his choice of profession. He grew up with a military father and as such, discipline was a rule heavily enforced to keep the children in line at all time. From when he was little, Shawn never liked the name Michael, so everyone just called him Shawn instead, but after he dropped out of college to fully pursue his wrestling career, he decided to adopt Shawn Michaels as his ring name. After he left school, he began training under Mexican professional wrestler Jose Lothario in preparation for his debut on the 16th of October 1984 at the National Wrestling Alliance’s (NWA) Mid-South Wrestling territory. He lost the match, but spectators and professionals alike were impressed with his first attempt and so, more opportunities came calling.
By January the next year, he made his first appearance for World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW), the NWA territory in Dallas, Texas. He made many appearances on many territories of the NWA, winning some and losing others as well as fighting alone and in a team until he made his national debut in the American Wrestling Association when he was just 20 years old.
