Stevie G, as he is popularly referred to, is a former English midfielder and current manager of Rangers FC. His love for football started at a very tender age and as a result of that, he joined Liverpool Academy at age 9. This brought him closer to his dream of becoming a professional footballer. He was born on the 30th of May 1980 in Whiston, Merseyside. Steven joined the Liverpool Academy at the tender age of 9. On the 5th of November 1997, he was offered his first ever professional contract by Liverpool but had to wait for about a year to make his first appearance for the Reds. His chance finally came in the form of a last minute substitution for right back Vegard Heggem on the 29th of November 1998; it was a match against Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League. That season, he was able to make a total of 13 appearances because of the injury of Jaime Redknapp.
The 1999 season saw him being partnered with Jaime Redknapp in central midfield. According to Gerrard, that partnership offered him a lot in terms of experience. That same season, he got his first red card in the Merseyside derby against Everton for his careless challenge on Kevin Campbell, this eventually led Liverpool to lose the game 1-0. His first senior goal for Liverpool came in the team’s 4-1 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday. On the 3rd of October 2003, Steven Gerrard was promoted to the position of Captain by the then Liverpool manager, Gerard Houllier. He remained captain until his very last day as a Liverpool player.
January 2015 saw Steven Gerrard move to the Major League Soccer team, LA Galaxy, with him making his debut in a friendly match on the 11th of July. He went on to bag a total of 13 appearances and two goals that season. On the 24th of November 2016, he retired from professional football and was lauded by many for his great impact in the game.

In the 2000/2001 season, Steven Gerrard produced a stellar performance which earned him the PFA young player of the year award. He was also the captain of the unstoppable Liverpool team that undid a 3 goal deficit against AC Milan in the 2005 champions league final and eventually won the trophy. His performance in the final won him the man of the match award and also the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year Award. In the 2005/2006 season, he became the first Liverpool player to be nominated for the PFA player of the year award since 1988.
In 2006, with a goal against West Ham in the FA Cup final, he became the first ever Player to score in an FA Cup final, Champions League final, League Cup final, and the UEFA Cup final. In 2015, he became the third Premier League player to mark 500 appearances for a single team right after Ryan Giggs and Jaime Carragher.
