Susan Moonsie is an American musician best known as a member of the short-lived 80s all-girl music trio known as “Vanity 6” (1982–1983) which subsequently transformed into “Apollonia 6” (1983–1985). Both groups were protégés of the late music icon Prince and Susan Moonsie was a member of both.
Under the tutelage of Prince, Vanity 6 released their self-titled debut album in 1982. That album was the only album released by the trio before the departure of its lead singer. The group found a replacement for its lead singer and was then renamed “Apollonia 6” and just like Vanity 6, Apollonia 6 equally released one studio album before going into oblivion.
Apart from her music career, Susan Moonsie was also known to be romantically involved with Prince. Throughout Prince’s 40 years as a recording artist, he was linked to several women at different times. However, he was not only with them for the sake of companionship, he found them as a source of inspiration. A good number of his songs were inspired by the women in his life and Susan Moonsie can be said to have been one of Prince’s muses.
Susan Moonsie Bio
Susan Moonsie was born on January 21, 1964, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The gorgeous singer is a Black American and originally from Trinidad and Tobago. She is also of Indian descent.
As a singer, Moonsie came into the limelight in the early 80s as a member of the early 80s all-girls music trio known as Vanity 6. The trio was formed by the late American pop musician . Prince, who was just starting off his own music career, was inspired to form and nurture a female musician/music group after watching the musical drama film A Star is Born which featured alongside Kris Kristofferson.
The group had a risqué image and their lyrics were usually overly sensual. Due to their raunchy lyrics, most of their songs were found unfit for radio. The trio was usually lingerie-clad on their cover photos and during their stage performances.
Vanity 6 was made up of Susan Moonsie alongside Brenda Bennett and the trio’s frontwoman Denise Matthews a.k.a. Vanity. The trio released only one studio album titled Vanity 6. The lead single titled Nasty Girl made it to the top of the U.S. Dance chart and peaked at number 7 on the U.S. R&B chart. The group also made their stage debut on Prince’s 4th concert tour titled 1999 tour (1982-1983).
However, the lead singer of the group exited the group abruptly in 1983 to pursue a solo career. She was promptly replaced by Patricia Kotero whose stage name was Apollonia. Following the replacement of Vanity by Apollonia as lead singer, the trio Vanity 6 was then renamed to Apollonia 6. Apollonia 6 also released just one studio album before it was finally dissolved in 1985.
Following the disbandment, Susan Moonsie did not pursue a solo music career. She totally went off the media radar and she barely grants interviews.

The “group Vanity 6” was originally formed around Susan Moonsie and she was the intended leader of the group. However, the young singer was shy and unable to take up the role of the group’s lead singer. Therefore, when Prince came across the daring Denise Mattews a.k.a. Vanity, he was enthralled by her and snapped her up to become the group’s frontwoman.
The group Vanity 6 was initially to be called “Hookers”. That alternative moniker, chosen by none other but the legendary musician Prince is a representation of the audacious sexuality of the late musician at that time.
Susan Moosie initially falsified her age in order to keep up with the “precocious teenager” image that Prince had wanted for her on Vanity 6. The singer claimed to be 16 years of age while she was already 18 when the group was formed.
Susan Moosie had a relationship with Prince. The singer is one in the array of beautiful women who were linked to the late iconic pop musician. Moonsie remained Prince’s main chick until he met Denise Matthews a.k.a. Vanity. Their on-and-off relationship lasted from 1980 to 1985. Within this period, Prince was also linked to Susannah Melvoin, who was his backup singer.

Susan Moosie was married to Hollywood actor and film editor David Garfield. The couple got married on December 29, 1988. They enjoyed a relatively blissful marriage until Garfield died on November 24, 1994, from a heart attack.
