It turns out that isn’t the only successful crossover entertainer in the industry; Terry Crews stands among the ranks too. One look at his chiselled frame will make anyone think that he belongs in a wrestling ring. Terry is a former American football player turned actor and artist most known for his roles in Everybody Hates Chris, Are We There Yet? and The Expendables movies.

He has also hosted the popular game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire and was one of the names listed in 2017 as ‘TIME Person of the Year’.

Terry’s Early Days

Terry Alan Crews was born in Flint, Michigan, into a Christian family on July 30, 1968. His father, Terry Crews Sr., being an abusive alcoholic meant that his mother was in the driver’s seat when it came to raising young Terry.

He went to Flint Southwestern for his high school education and earned himself a full-ride football scholarship to Western Michigan University. He also received other art scholarships too like the one he received at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, which was sponsored by Chrysler. As a footballer, Terry played the defensive end for the WMU Broncos for which he won an All-Conference honors and the Mid-American Conference Championship in 1988.

Terry Crews’ professional career would begin when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. He was picked in the 11th round of the 1991 NFL draft. Over the course of his career, he also played with the San Diego Chargers, the Washington Redskins, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Post-football and Acting Career

Crews hung his football in boots in 1997, he was just 29 at the time. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his long-held dream of an acting career. His first acting role came as the character “Warriors” in the Syndicated game show Battle Dome. He portrayed T-Money until the show was cancelled in 2001.

Before his next movie role, he appeared in everything from music videos to commercials. His next role was in the movie Friday After Next, with Ice Cube, whom Terry had previously worked for as a bodyguard on-set. He went on to star in movies like White Chicks in 2001, and Adam Sandler’s The Longest Yard in the following year. Terry gained wider public recognition when he starred as Julius Rock on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. Among his many other movies is his part as Sergeant Terry Jeffords in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Crews worked to move away from being known as a comic, a stereotype his sitcom movie roles had imposed on him. He got his chance to do just that when he played Hale Caesar in The Expendables series. The former pro-football player has also done some voice-over work in animated movies such as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, where he was the voice of the character Earl Devereaux.

He collaborated with BET to start his own reality series about him and his family’s everyday life. It was titled The Family Crews and ran from 2010 to 2011. For the Netflix original show, Ultimate Beastmaster, in 2017, Crews starred as an American host.

Sexual Orientation/Gay Controversy

The only stain on Terry’s otherwise spotless acting career would be when he accused the head of WME’s motion picture group, Adam Venit of sexually assaulting him. This caused the springing up of unfounded rumors that the actor was either homosexual or bisexual.

Terry says that the event took place at a party in 2016, when Adam had made inappropriate advances towards him, even groping and squeezing his genitals more than once. Terry ended up having to shove him into some of the other partygoers. Concerning the event, Crews says that he has never felt more emasculated and objectified.

Meanwhile, Adam was sent on a 30-day leave pending an internal investigation. He has since returned to work but was demoted from his role as head of WME’s motion picture group. He is serving instead in a lower capacity as an agent. An outcome for which Terry Crews clearly stated his dissatisfaction with.

Terry Crews’ Body Measurements
