The beautiful but weird young lady is a singer-actress, dancer and YouTube personality who was born with birth name Moriah Rose Pereira but is popularly known by her nickname That Poppy. Her father was a drummer in a rock band and as a child, she spent most of her time watching his group rehearse and perform at events. Her family moved to Nashville, Tennessee when she was 14 years old due to her father’s change of job and he also wanted his family to start afresh in a new environment. Barely a year after moving to Nashville, Poppy relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her music career.
The Pop singer’s style of music was influenced by music genres like J-pop, K-pop and reggae. She began to write songs in 2012 and she is a fan of Cyndi Lauper, The Unicorns, Elvis Presley, Jimmy Eat World, No Doubt and Blondie. The singer and YouTube rising sensation signed a record deal with ‘Island Records’ in 2015 and released her first song Everybody Wants To Be Poppy followed by Low Life and in February 2016, she released Bubblebath. As part of her weird nature, the singer and YouTuber published a controversial book in 2017 titled The Gospel of Poppy that contains weird ideas about the bible and written versions of her YouTube videos. She received criticisms after that plus the accusations of being a cult leader but she denied such accusations in her vlogs.
The singer and YouTuber runs her personal channel called ‘That Poppy TV’ where she broadcasts reviews about social media culture using sarcastic and weird voice tones. Due to this, she has been described as a robot and a strange personality, believed to be created by musician and director Titanic Sinclair. Her short film titled I’m Poppy, also directed by Titanic Sinclair shows Poppy who portrayed a character that talks about issues in the world like fame, cults, satan, out of control fans and Poppy’s rival Charlotte was shown at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2018.
