Castagne, who was born in Arlon, Belgian Luxembourg, began his football career with local clubs US Waltzing and Lorrain Arlon before joining Virton’s junior academy, the province’s main club. After attending a boarding school in the area, he continued to play matches at Virton on weekends with the Standard Liège young teams.
Castagne moved to Genk in 2011 after Standard opted not to hire him on a permanent basis. He signed a three-year professional contract with Genk in June 2013. After making a positive impression during training camp with the first team in January 2014, then-Genk coach Mario Been decided to include him in the first squad for the second half of the season. On 14 September 2014, he made his Belgian Pro League debut as a starter against Club Brugge under new head coach Alex McLeish.
