Timothy Hawking’s Biography
Timothy Hawkings was born on April 15, 1979, in St Albans, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. Tim, as he is fondly called never really had a happy childhood experience like his siblings – , who is an employee of Microsoft and Lucy, who is a journalist. Until he was five years old, Timothy could barely have a two-way conversation with his father because of the drawl of the speech box. Tim, in one of his interviews once said that his father lost his voice at the time when he formed a close relationship with him. They visited car racing games together and were often joined by Formula 1 supremo, Frank Williams, who also was in a wheelchair, watching the races from the Williams team pit.
Timothy Hawking is a graduate of the Exter University in England. He graduated with a degree in Spanish and French language. He continued his studies at the University of Birmingham and he worked for some small companies in the UK as an account manager. After he had gained some valuable experience and with determination, Timothy joined LEGO as a loyalty executive and as the saying goes, there was no looking back for him from then. Nevertheless, unlike his father Stephen Hawking, Timothy holds a low profile when it comes to his occupation.
What Is His Relationship With Stephen Hawking
Despite being unable to have a proper verbal conversation with his father, Stephen Hawking during the early part of his childhood, Timothy Hawking talks about the close bond he shared with his father in an interview. He talked about how they played chess together with his father not been an easy opponent to face. He confessed how he would programme swear words into his father’s speech machine and play pranks. They both shared a common passion for Formula One which tells more about the chemistry that existed between them.
There have been speculations and controversies as to whether Timothy is the true biological son of Stephen Hawking or the son of Jonathan Hellyer Jones but Stephen is the one whom Timothy Hawking has chosen to call ‘father’ and bear his name and according to Timothy, even a DNA test can’t change that. These speculations popped up following the grand launch of the movie The Theory of Everything. Also, in the book which Jane Hawking wrote titled Travelling To Infinity: My Life With Stephen, she talks about the lack of physical intimacy which existed between her and Stephen. Jane described it as “a deep hole in my own life”. Isobel Hawking, Stephen Hawking’s mother once asked Jane which man was the father to Timothy and she replied saying that it could only be Stephen’s.
Not minding all the controversies that have come up, the Hawking’s family has fully accepted Timothy as their brother, not minding if he was their half-brother. All of the three children are united and have stood by each other and their father even up until his demise on March 14, 2018.
Facts About Timothy Hawking
Tim’s parents, Jane and Stephen Hawking got engaged in 1964 and then got married on July 14, 1965. The couple met through a mutual college friend at a party in the early 1960s. This was before Stephen was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease.
His parents later separated in 1990 and finalized their divorce in 1995 and in the same year, Stephen Hawking got married to a nurse, Elaine Mason who he later divorced in 2006 while his mother, Jane got remarried to Jonathan Hellyer Jones who is a musician in 1997.
Timothy’s elder sister, Lucy Hawking who is an English journalist and novelist, writes for New York Magazine, The Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Times, The London Evening Standard and The Guardian. She also has worked as a radio journalist and is the mother of one son named, William Smith.
His elder brother, Robert Hawking works for Microsoft as a software engineer. He was the only one who showed interest in science out of the three children. He wanted to be a scientist just like his father but later on studied software engineering. Robert has a son and a daughter and has always stayed away from the media. He values his privacy and this seems to be going on well for him so far.
