Tom Brady is one of the most recognizable faces in American football. Born on August 3, 1977, in San Mateo, California, Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. is the youngest child and the only son of Galynn Patricia and Thomas Brady Sr. His father has Irish roots while his mother has Polish, Swedish and Norwegian ancestry. Brady and his three elder sisters named Nancy, Julie, and Maureen were raised Catholic.
Tom Brady’s Childhood And Brief History
During the 1980’s, Brady as a child with his family would often attend the San Fransisco 49ers game anytime they played in town. He became a huge fan of quarterback Joe Montana whom he has mentioned in recent times as one of his earliest influences. Brady attended St. Gregory elementary school and played sports such as flag and touch football during recess and after school hours.
His love for sports continued to grow through to Junipero Serra High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. Brady performed very well in these sports but had more passion for football, hence his interest to go pro. He became a highly sought after prospect and was given the chance to play pro football for the Montreal Expos. However, he declined and opted instead for college at the University of Michigan. After college, he was selected in the 6th round by the New England Patriots in the NFL 2000 draft. And that marked the beginning of a successful NFL career.
Tom Brady Family Sisters
As earlier stated, Brady comes from a family of four and is the youngest and only son. Brady’s older sisters namely Maureen, Julie, and Nancy were all accomplished athletes in their schools while growing up.
The oldest sister Maureen born in 1974 was a softball star pitcher; at the age of 17, she made it to the US Junior Olympic team and earned a college scholarship to attend California State University, Fresno. Maureen who now resides in Bakersfield, California is a soft ball instructor and a nurse.
Second sister Julie born in 1975, now a teacher, was an outstanding soccer player, she went on to become a walk-on at St. Mary’s college California but later earned a scholarship. Julie is married to former pro baseball player Kevin Youkilis.
Brady’s last sister Nancy born 1976 was also exceptional softball player. She earned a scholarship at Cal-Berkeley and attended Boston University School of Public Health where she earned a master’s degree in 2013. Nancy got married in 2015 to Steve Bonelli in an intimate wedding in Boston.
While they were growing up, the Brady siblings were very supportive of each other’s sporting career, anticipating each other’s performance game after game. However, at the time, the Brady sisters were more popular and the talk of the town, while Tom who lived in the shadow of his sisters’ fame was often referred to as Tommy or “little Brady”. This sparked a competitive spirit in Tom to make something out of his own sport career and become a star someday.
Tom Brady, 17, wrote an essay titled “The Way My Sisters Influenced Me” which he on June 23, 2016. The letter clearly reveals how Brady felt among his superstar sisters of which he also stated he was extremely proud of. Brady said he only felt recognized when he was around his sisters as people would often ask him about them or talk about their achievements. Here is the concluding paragraph of Brady’s essay;
….but no matter what awards people may give me or what records I might break, the most meaningful thing to me is when I succeed in not only athletics but life, the individuals who will always be there to support and recognize me will be my three sisters…..And hopefully just maybe, one day people will walk up to them and say, “Aren’t you Tommy’s sister?” or “Hey where is your brother?”. Maybe…
Apparently, Tommy’s dream came true as he is now a three-time Super Bowl MVP and four-time Super Bowl Champion. The table has definitely turned around as the whole world know his sisters because of him.
Tom Brady Family Son Kids
Tom Brady like his older sisters have built a family of his own. When he wrote in his essay about becoming a star someday, we bet he didn’t dream about being married to another star; Brady married Brazilian super model Gisele Bundchen in 2009. The pair who met in a blind date set up by their mutual friend began dating in 2006 shortly after Brady split with his previous girlfriend. Brady and Bundchen got married in two separate wedding ceremonies. The first which was an intimate Catholic ceremony was held on February 26, 2009 in Santa Monica, California. About two months later, the couple held another wedding ceremony in Costa Rica.
Brady and Bundchen have two kids together Their son Benjamin Rein Brady was born in December 8, 2009 and their daughter Vivian Lake Brady was born in December 5, 2012. Tom fathered a son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan with his ex girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan. John Edward Thomas Moynahan was born in August 22, 2007, making him Brady’s first son and child. John is fully part of the family as Bundchen treats him just like her own. Though his mom broke up with his dad before he was even born, John keeps in touch with his mom and daddy makes sure of that by taking him to go regularly.
Brady’s second son Benjamin already has his Brady sports genes manifesting, the young lad has interest in hockey. It wouldn’t surprise us if his other siblings find a passion in a sport of their own, but we would forgive Vivian if she prefers to walk the runway like her super supermodel mom.
