Many know him for portraying a character called Isaac Rosenberg in the 2002 American comedy film, Barbershop, but there’s so much more to this young man’s acting skills, versatility, and hunky looks than you probably know. According to sources, Tom named his child after Irish Republican Brotherhood member/Fenian leader Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa and the Điện Bàn District, Vietnam-born leader Nguyen Van Troi while his surname (Garity) was derived from paternal grandmother’s family name.
Troy Garity was raised in Santa Monica and later launched his acting career as a child at Santa Barbara’s Laurel Springs Camp for the Arts, where he enacted commedia dell’arte, an early form of professional theatre also known as Commedia alla Maschera or commedia dell’arte all’improvviso. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which is in New York City and later joined the Academy Repertory Company, where he featured in a good number of stage productions.

Born in Royal Oak, Michigan, on December 11, 1939, Tom was a Member of the California State Assembly from the 44th district from 1982 to 1992 as well as a Member of the California Senate from the 23rd district from 1992 to 2000. He died at the age of 76, on 23rd October 2016, in Santa Monica, California, after a lengthy illness. His marital relationship with Fonda lasted for seventeen years (from 1973 to 1990). At the time of his death, he was married to his third wife, Canadian-born American actress Barbara Williams, whom he married in 1993 and shared an adopted son with. His name is Liam Hayden (born 2000).
Troy Garity’s mom, was born Jane Seymour Fonda, on 21st December 1937, in New York City, U.S. A fitness guru/actress/political activist/ writer/former fashion model, Fonda is a four-time Golden Globe Award winner, two-time BAFTA Award winner, as well as two-time Academy Award winner. She was awarded the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2014 and the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2017 at the 74th Venice Film Festival. She has married thrice in her lifetime – Roger Vadim (1965 -1973), Tom Hayden (1973 – 1990), and Ted Turner (1991 -2001). In 2009, Jane began a relationship with American record producer, Richard Perry but it only survived till 2017, when they broke up.
Through his mother, Troy is the grandchild of actor Henry Fonda and Canadian-born American socialite Jane Fonda and actor Peter Fonda’s nephew. Apart from Troy, his mother has two other children called Mary Luana Williams and Venessa Vadim. The former was unofficially adopted in her adolescence by Tom and Jane while the latter came from Fonda’s first marriage to Roger Vadim. Mary is a writer and activist while Venessa is a film director.
