Here, we will tell you all about him starting from the basics to the unknown things about him.
Background Information on Vince Wilfork
Before Vince Wilfork started playing football and became famous, he was once an unknown toddler born on the 4th of November 1981 to David and Barbra Wilfork in Boynton Beach, Florida.
As a young lad, he got schooled at Santaluces Community High School in Palm Beach County, Florida where he actively participated in all of track and field sports (like shot put, discus), football and wrestling. He was so good in these sporting activities that he couldn’t have graduated from high school without some laurels. As such, he has to his credit the USA Today’s second team All-American honors for his prowess in football, Florida’s Class 4A state champion in the shot put and discus in the year 2000 with a shot put throw of 68 feet (20.73 m) and 180 feet (54.86 m) in the discus.
These are only pointers to what Vince would be capable of after high school, as he went on to do more and greater things in college and his professional career. He gained admission to study at the University of Miami and as you would rightly guess, he played college football for the Miami Hurricanes and participated in track and field events as well. He played every game as a defensive tackle in his freshman year. He put in 43 tackles with 7 sacks in his sophomore season and got rated as the second-best defensive tackle in the whole of the U.S of A prior to the 2003 season by the Sporting News, he didn’t disappoint in that season as he started all 13 games for the Hurricanes.
In track and field events, he set the Miami indoor school record in the shot put which was only recently broken. His last season in Miami saw him forgo his senior season to be drafted in the 2004 National Football League (NFL) draft which saw him committing to play for the New England Patriots as he was drafted with the 21st overall pick being ranked the second best defensive tackle in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Vince Wilfork committed 11 years of his professional footballing career to the Patriots. Here, he got ample playing time as a nose tackle in his rookie season. He was in the starting line up and won Super Bowl XXXIX against the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2008, he got selected to the 2008 Pro Bowl and was honorably named as a second-team All-Pro selection. Vince played in Super Bowl XLVI but the Patriots lost to New York Giants. He was included on the AFC’s 2012 Pro Bowl roster. He was honored with 26 other US footballers as a defensive tackle for the USA Football’s 2012 “All-Fundamentals Team” and in this same year, he was named to his fourth career Pro Bowl and All-Pro second team. His strong and impressive performances in this year earned him a respectable spot in the Associated Press All-Pro premiere team in addition to the 2013 Pro Bowl.
Vince Wilfork’s career began wrapping up in 2015 after his 2014 Super Bowl XLIX victory against the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. The Patriots didn’t renew his contract and this made him sign a two-year contract with the Houston Texans on March 16, 2015, before announcing his retirement from professional football on August 9, 2017, in a press conference.
Family – Wife, Son
Venice lost his parents in 2002 and they couldn’t watch him play in the NFL. Within six months, he lost his father David Wilfork to diabetes while his mother Barbra died later due to stroke. However, since his college and professional career, his wife Bianca has been his biggest fan.
The two met online in Venice’s freshman year in college at a time he was just recently named the top high school football player in Florida. Vince met Bianca on one of the earliest social media sites which existed – then called blackplanet. He sent her a message to which she responded and the two got increasingly interested in each other.
At this time, both were in Florida and Bianca was raising her son as a single mum. Initially, Vince’s mum didn’t like the idea of her son seeing the Cuban woman, but this changed when she learned she was being supportive of his school work by encouraging him to take his studies seriously.
The two had their first child, a baby girl named Destiny Barbara shortly after Vince’s mother died. Bianca had series of failed pregnancy attempts but luck shined on her in 2009 when their second child, a baby boy named David Dream-Angel was born. This made them a family of five with Bianca’s first child named D’Aundre and they all live together in Houston, Texas.
