He is popularly known as JB Smoove but was born Jerry Angelo Brooks in the year 1963 on December 16th. His birth took place in Plymouth, North Carolina, where his father Floyd Brooks, and mother Elizabeth Brooks welcomed him as the first of their three children.
Most parts of his early years were spent in Mount Vernon, New York, after which he spent time with his maternal relatives in Plymouth. Sadly, his father died when he was about 15 years old.
JB schooled at Mount Vernon High School and graduated in 1983. He then furthered his education at Norfolk State University in Virginia where he studied Engineering and Graphics Designing.
Though he developed his penchant for the entertainment industry on time, JB Smoove didn’t wait around for that part of his life to manifest. He started working as a perfume formulator in a perfume factory to earn a living.
His hustling didn’t stop there as he also sold fire extinguishers and had a job at a T-shirt branding company known as Mrs. G’s T’s. At the company, he branded and sold printed T-shirts that were designed to suit customers’ specifications.
At this time, you would be pardoned to think that JB would probably make a living as an entrepreneur but no, he had more affinity for entertainment.
His entertainment side only manifested when he cheerfully interacts with customers and when he did start his entertainment career, he started small and build a robust career over time.

JB began started his journey in the entertainment world as a dancer. He first pitched his tent with a hip-hop group dubbed J. Smoove prior to launching his acting career.
He hit the jackpot when he landed a recurring role on The Lyricist Lounge Show on MTV. In addition to The Lyricist Lounge Show, he has also made appearances in Premium Blend, Pootie Tang.
The first big feature film he appeared in is Mr. Deeds, wherein he depicted the role of Adam Sandler. Some of the major appearances he has made on TV include Saturday Night Live (2003–2005), and Jimmy Kimmel Live! (2004–2013), Comics Unleashed (2007–2011), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2007–to date), Transformers: Cyberverse (2018, Jazz – voice role), among many others.
His most recent appearances came in the final dinner service of Hell’s Kitchen’s eighteenth season dubbed Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies vs. Veterans. He contributed as a chef’s table guest in the blue kitchen.
The same year, he also appeared as a guest judge on the inaugural season of the reality singing competition The Masked Singer which airs on FOX.
