If Behati Prinsloo was to stop working today and hang up her stilettos, many would argue that she has already done enough to etch her name in the history books of global fashion. This African beauty had always been interested in fashion and modeling from a very young age. Who is Behati Prinsloo?
Behati was born in South Africa on May 16, 1988. Her Namibian parents had to move to South Africa prior to her birth due to the nature of her father’s occupation as a church minister. However, the family eventually moved back to her home country of Namibia when Behati was just three years old.
Although she speaks Afrikaans, which is her native tongue, her father, Louis Francois Prinsloo, and mother, Magda Prinsloo, who operates a bed and breakfast business, ensured that she was English educated. For her secondary school education, Behati was enrolled at the high school of the town she grew up in, Grootfontein High School. However, in a bid to pursue her dreams of becoming a model, she became disenchanted with school and eventually dropped out in her 9th grade to become a model.
Behati, in an interview, narrates how she kick-started her modeling career. In her own words, she was in South Africa for the holiday with her grandparents when a man walked up to her in the grocery store, inquires if she was a model and ended up giving her his number.
Her career
When Victoria’s Secret established PINK, their lingerie line for younger females, they tapped up Behati as their first contract model. She modeled for the line in 2008 and the following year, she became a Victoria’s Secret Angel and since then has worked in more than ten Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows.
Before this time, Behati Prinsloo had already done work for Prada’s Miu Miu line, and for Marc Jacobs where she was shot for her first ad campaign titled Marc. Since then she has been shot by notable fashion photographers such as Paolo Rivers, Mario Testino, and David Sims for brands like British Vogue and W Magazine. A lot of her other works include campaigns for Esprit, I Am Juicy Couture Fragrance, DKNY Jeans, H&M, The Gap, Lacoste, Sportmax, Raw Spirit Fragrance and much more.
Throughout her modeling career, the Namibian beauty has walked runways at fashion shows for brands like Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Anna Sui, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Givenchy, Calvin Klein and a host of others. She has also been on a plethora of magazine covers like Vogue Spain, Vogue Russia, Elle France, So It Goes Magazine, L’Officiel Netherlands, Russh Magazine and a lot more.
In 2010, Prinsloo turned fashion designer when she crafted a swimsuit collection for Victoria’s Secret called “Behati Loves Pink”. Since 2014, she has also continued to design for other brands like the denim collection she made for THVM. She has also partnered with Juicy Couture to create a fashion and accessories collection.
The model has also made television cameos and appeared on music videos by popular artists. Prinsloo has appeared on an episode of Hawaii Five-O as well as in music videos for Sharaya J, , and The Virgins among others.

Before Behati met her husband, it is not surprising that she already had a love life. She started dating Jamie Strachan, a fellow model in 2005 and they were together until 2012. In the same year, she met Adam Levine, the lead man for the pop band Maroon 5.
They finally tied the knot two years later in Cab San Lucas, Mexico on July 19, 2014. Behati and Adam welcomed their first child, a daughter named Dusty Rose on September 21, 2016. In February 2018, their second daughter Gio Grace was born.
