Just at the end of the 2015–16 season, he underwent a surgical procedure to repair a stress fracture that had occurred in his right leg which hindered his participation in the pre-draft workouts. In spite of his health challenges, Malik Beasley still had his shot at the 2016 NBA draft. He was subsequently selected with the 19th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets and signed his rookie scale contract on August 9, 2016. His debut season wasn’t much of a success for Malik Beasley got to play in just two of his team’s seven games. To better complicate things, he couldn’t score in the two games. His debut season was also spent on numerous assignments with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League.
Notwithstanding his rough start as an NBA player, Malik got his groove back in a game on November 10. He scored 12 points in 15 minutes off the bench even though the game ended in a 125–101 loss to the Golden State Warriors.
