As is usually the case, children of highly successful parents have a hard time emulating and replicating such successes in their careers, especially when they choose to follow in their footsteps, as Nancy Sinatra, daughter of the legendary American singer and actor, Frank Sinatra, found out. That, however, is not saying that Ms Sinatra, did not achieve considerable success in her career as would be discussed below.
Who Is Nancy Sinatra?
On the 8th of June 1940 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Nancy Sandra Sinatra was born as the first child to legendary singer Frank Sinatra and his first wife, Nancy (nee Barbato). Sinatra spent her formative years in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey and then in Toluca Lake, California, where her father moved the family to due to his burgeoning Hollywood career.
As a child, Nancy Sinatra was prepped to have a life in show business. With her siblings; Frank Jr. who was born in 1944, and Tina who was born in 1948, Nancy attended piano, dance, drama, and voice lessons. After high school, Sinatra, who had seen her father attain great heights in Hollywood, enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles to study music, dancing, and voice to further hone her skills. The young lady, however, later opted to drop out of school just after a year to focus on her professional career.
Sinatra made her debut in 1960 when she appeared in her father’s television special, The Frank Sinatra Timex Show: Welcome Home Elvis. On the show, the father-daughter duo danced and sang a duet titled “You Make Me Feel So Young/Old”. The following year, she put pen to paper on a deal with her father’s record label, Reprise Records, through which she released her first body of work that included songs like “Cuff Links and a Tie Clip”.
Sinatra struggled to make a name for herself in the U.S. with her music although some of her songs had been somewhat of a hit in Europe and Japan. The lack of a significant hit stateside put her at risk of losing her record deal. She was later saved by songwriter and producer Lee Hazlewood who took her under his wings and helped put her career back on track. Some of Nancy Sinatra’s chart-topping hits at the time with Hazlewood include “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’”, “How Does That Grab You, Darlin’?”, and “Sugar Town”.
Also in the 60s, Sinatra launched her acting career, appearing in the musicals For Those Who Think Young (1964), Get Yourself a College Girl (1964), and The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966). In 1968, she starred alongside Elvis Presley in the musical comedy Speedway (1968), what turned out to be her last movie role. In the 70s and 80s, Sinatra continued to release chart-topping music although she was not as active in the public light in order to pay attention to her family. She has since that time, continued to release music and appear on one or two shows, most recently on an episode of the HBO crime drama The Sopranos.
Nancy Sinatra’s Net Worth
Nancy Sinatra reportedly has a net worth of $50 million. The musician and actress acquired her wealth through her successful career as an entertainer which she still receives royalty payments from as she owns all of her publishing rights and masters.
Ms Sinatra is also said to have inherited a cash bequest of $200,000 from her father, in addition to her existing trust fund, when he died.
Family – Parents, Husband, Children
As stated above, Nancy Sinatra was born to one of the most popular, influential, and best-selling musical artists of all time, Frank Sinatra. The multiple Grammy Award-winning singer, who has also won an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for his acting, welcomed her with his first wife who was also named Nancy. Not much is known about Nancy Barbato because she loved to live a very private life, until her death in July 2018.
In 1960, Nancy Sinatra married her first husband, singer, and actor, Tommy Sands, who is best known for the song “Teen-Age Crush”. The couple got married in 1960 but only lasted five years together as they divorced in 1965. In 1970, Sinatra married Choreographer Hugh Lambert and welcomed two daughters; Angela Jennifer “AJ” Lambert born in 1974 and Amanda Catherine Lambert born in 1976.
