He began training in martial arts with his older brother, Nick who is a former WEC Welterweight Champion and Strikeforce Welterweight Champion.

Since making his professional MMA debut on the 21st of October, 2004 at WEC 12, where he defeated Alex Gracia by a triangle choke, he’s gone on to record victories against some of the biggest names in Professional Martial Arts such as Donald Cerrone, , and Gray Maynard.
Fighting Career
Even though he is a UFC fighter now, Nate Diaz started out and competed mainly for World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). His journey to the Ultimate Fighting Championship started on The Ultimate Fighter 5, which was exclusively for lightweights. It was at Ultimate Fighter 5 that Diaz defeated every single opponent and emerged the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 5.
Having clearly shown he’s no pushover, especially after his fights with Alvin Robinson and Junior Assuncao which he won by submission. He grew hungrier and was rewarded with more prominent fights.
Nate Diaz’s first loss in the UFC came at the hands of Clay Guida at UFC 94 via split decision. His second loss followed immediately at the hands of fellow Ultimate Fighter winner, Joe Stevenson.
He made his Welterweight debut on March 27, 2010, at UFC 111. Nate Diaz went on to win the fight in the first round. In his next Welterweight fight, he fought against former professional boxer Marcus Davis on August 28, 2010, and won in the final round and the bout earned Fight of the Night honors.
In 2016, after a couple years of winning fights with rising stock in the UFC, Nate Diaz was set to face Conor McGregor on March 5, 2016, at UFC 196. He won the fight via submission in the second round, making it his ninth submission victory in the UFC, tied for the second most all-time behind only Royce Gracie. The fighter was awarded the performance of the night bonus.
A rematch with Conor McGregor was scheduled; sadly, he lost the rematch via majority decision.

His brother, Nick Diaz was one of the top welterweight fighters during his time in the UFC.
