Tati Westbrook’s Biography
The GlamLifeGuru star was born Tatiana Alexsandra Krievins on February 14, 1982, to Janis and talent agent/manager, Cindy Krievins. She was born in Washington where she also attended the Henry M. Jackson High School. For lack of funds, Tati did not attend college or a beauty school but who needs a college education to break through on the internet these days?
Growing up in Seattle, Tati had always known she would be famous and thought she would end up as an actress. She did a bit of acting, musical theater, and dance as a child before she was eventually discovered by a casting director at the age of 13. The discovery prompted her to move to Los Angeles with her family. When she arrived in LA, she finally realized that acting might not be for her. Before she became famous, Westbrook did some odd jobs, including working at GAP and Starbucks, as a perfume girl at a mall, as a dog groomer, and a bartender.
How Did She Become So Famous on The Internet?
Tati Westbrook’s break into the world of makeup and subsequently video creation didn’t come as a surprise to her, at least. She has always been interested in graphics and once worked as an image consultant before settling for a YouTube career. The self-acclaimed makeup addict worked as a makeup artist for sometime before deciding to let others in on her craft. On November 7, 2007, she launched her YouTube channel, GlamLifeGuru (now Tati), with very little knowledge about cameras and editing.
Being someone who loves what she does and the smiles she brings to her viewers’ faces, Westbrook brushed up her editing skills in no time. On her channel, she started creating and uploading beauty tips, tutorials, and reviews. After a while, viewers began to trust her reviews, advice, opinions, and recommendations. As expected, Tati grew not just in content but in subscribers and viewership as well. Her channel has garnered over 9.72 million subscribers and witnessed more than 1.3 billion views. What initially began as a flair, has now turned into a full-fledged profession, thus making her a household name.
Newsweek dubbed Westbrook “the mother of the YouTube beauty community” and she is also “widely considered to be a progenitor of YouTube’s beauty scene.” More so, she won the Allure Beauty Blogger Award, as well as the YouTube Breakout Beauty Celebrity award. She has also featured in Allure, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour, and has appeared as LA-Based Beauty Correspondent for 100 episodes of Amazon’s Style Code Live.
What Else Is She Known For?
Banking on her success on the internet, Tati has also branched into entrepreneurship. She launched the GlamLifeGuru app in 2016. Two years later, she launched a beauty line called Halo Beauty. The venture, which deals on beauty vitamins that boosts the hair, skin, and nails, however, faced some backlash shortly after over a controversial ingredient known as Saw Palmetto. The condiment is believed to interfere with birth control, which explains the controversy.
Tati is not new to controversies anyway, which seems to be one inevitable price of fame for participants on the video-sharing platform, YouTube. She was slammed for collaborating with Jeffree Star in 2017, and more recently, with fellow YouTuber-turned-foe James Charles.
To address and clear the conjectures and concerns raised by her fans, as well as accusations from haters, Tati Westbrook did a very long on her Channel, dispelling all rumors about her Beauty supplement and the controversial ingredient. Amidst the controversies surrounding the product, many have testified of its effectiveness and how they are seeing the results that were promised.
