Will Barton started his basketball career rather early, he was only six when he nursed dreams of playing in the NBA and becoming a superstar in the league. William Norman Barton was born on the 6th of January 1991, the Baltimore, Maryland native is from a humble background. He lived with his mother, brother, and niece in a single room. Because of the hardship he faced and the time he spent taking care of his niece, Barton’s academic performance was quite poor. This, however, did not affect his basketball games.
As far as anyone could tell, he started taking the sports seriously at Baltimore City College, a public college preparatory high school which he soon left for the National Christain Academy located in Fort Washington, Maryland. He would again abandon the Christain Academy to have his junior year of high school at the Lake Clifton Eastern High School. Will became a senior and yet again, moved to Brewster Academy, a boarding school in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire where he completed his high school education.
Keeping up with his passion for the handball game throughout the various schools, Will was rated as the best shooting guard among his peers by several platforms. As one would expect, a handful of colleges came calling to have him have his college career with their teams. Will would, however, choose to join the Tigers of Memphis. In his second year with the team, he won the Conference USA Player of the Year. Additionally, he earned other prestigious recognitions including making the C-USA All-Freshman team, the Third-team All-C-USA, and the First-team All-C-USA.
His NBA Career
Following the remarkable highlights of his college career, Will decided to forgo his last two years of eligibility and declared himself available for the 2012 NBA Draft. It was immediately predicted that he will be selected in the second round, this came to pass when the Portland Trail Blazers got him drafted with the 40th overall pick and in the second round. But then, he didn’t get to live out his NBA dream immediately as he was assigned to the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League. After a series of recall and reassignment, he eventually debuted with the Trail Blazers and blazed for the team from 2012 to 2015 which was when he was traded along with some of his mates to the Denver Nuggets where he received more play time.
He improved his game with the Dever Nuggets and went as far as watching his game every night after each match in order to note where he flawed and step up his game. This proved to be effective as Will has continued to be relevant in the league. Owing to his spectacular performance, the Nuggets decided to renew their pact with him. Sometime in July 2018, Will Barton inked a four year deal with the team worth $53 million.
