True or not, there are many celebrities who have been married more than four times in their lifetime, or as some may want to call them, those never tired of getting married or getting out of it. Just as there are some who have chosen not to get married at all, there are others who have gotten married for up to 9 times.

While we may never precisely know why these marriages failed, one thing is certain, these guys weren’t scared to try as much as they can to find whatever it was they were looking for.

Celebrities Who Have Been Married More Than Four Times

1. Zsa Zsa Gabor – Married 9 times

Hungarian-American actress, died in 2016 at the age of 99. While that had given her enough time to appear in close to a hundred movies, TV shows, and plays, it also afforded her enough time to get married for as much as 9 times. This makes her the celebrity with the most marriages.

The first time the beautiful actress got married was when she was only 18, she got married to Burhan Asaf Belge in 1935. By 1941, the two had divorced and Gabor married Conrad Hilton Sr. from 1942 to 1947. The next man she married was George Sanders from 1949 to 1954, Herbert Hutner from 1962 to 1966, Joshua S. Cosden Jr. from 1966 to 1967, and then she did not get married again until Jack Ryan became her husband in 1975. The marriage ended in 1976, the same year she became Michael O’Hara’s wife. In 1983, she left Michael for Felipe de Alba; the marriage was annulled in the same year and finally, she married Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt in 1986. She remained with Anhalt until her death.

2. Elizabeth Taylor – Married 8 times

In the Golden age of Hollywood, was one of the most popular faces in the industry. Beyond her talent, Taylor had all the beauty and grace to make many men want to marry her. The first time the British-American actress who began her acting career since she was a child got married was when she was only 18.

It was to socialite, hotel heir, and businessman Conrad Hilton Jr. that she first got married to in 1950, but that ended only a year later. Then she married Michael Wilding from 1952 to 1957, and Mike Todd from 1957 to 1958. From 1959 to 1964, she was married to Eddie Fisher, Richard Burton from 1964 to 1974 and after they divorced, they got married again. This time it lasted from 1975 to 76. John Warner became her next husband from 1976 to 1982, and lastly, Larry Fortensky from 1991 to 1996.

3. Mickey Rooney – Married 8 times

If a man’s ribs are taken off each time he gets married, Rooney would have been with eight ribs missing. The great American actor and comedian who died at the age of 93 was one of the last actors from the silent film era with over 300 movies to his name.

Beyond his professional achievements, he spent quite some time walking up and down the aisle with 8 different women. In 1942, he got married to Ava Gardner but the union ended in 1943, and then he married Betty Jane Phillips from 1944 to 1949, Martha Vickers from 1949 to 1951, Elaine Devry (1952 to 1958), Barbara Ann Thomason (1958 to 1966), Marge Lane (1966 to 1967), and Carolyn Hockett (1969 to 1975). In 1978, he got married to Jan Chamberlin with whom he surprisingly remained until his death in 2014.

4. Larry King – Married 8 times

One person who is no stranger to many walks to and fro the aisle is who got married 8 times to 7 different women. King who has the crown as far as TV and Radio is concerned got married the first time when he was 19 to Freda Miller who was his high school sweetheart. The marriage did not last for up to a year as their parents got them to annul the union in 1953.

In 1961, he got married to Annette Kaye only for the union to end in the same year, before getting married again to Alene Akins in the same year. The union ended in 1963, but King again got married in the same year to Mickey Sutphin, this ended in 1967. From 1967 to 1972, he was married to Alene Akins, Sharon Lepore from 1976 to 1983, and then Julie Alexander from 1989 to 1992.

King did not marry again until in 1997 when he tied the knot to Shawn Southwick with whom he still remains.

5. Artie Shaw – Married 8 times

Artie Shaw was many things all in one. He was an actor, a music composer, clarinetist, and a writer among other things. Through it all, the very difficult man, as he described himself, did not lack the time to say “I Do” for 8 times. While two of the marriages later got annulled, 6 failed in divorce.

Beyond just the number of times he got married, he had a reputation of dating many women. He was once engaged to Betty Grable before eloping with Lana Turner who also got married 8 times. The two married in 1940, but it ended the same year.

The first woman he got married to was Jane Cairns in 1932 but the union was annulled in 1933. From 1934 to 1937, he was married to Margaret Allen, and it was after this that he married Turner. Artie married Betty Kern from 1942 to 1943, Ava Gardner from 1945 to 46, and Kathleen Winsor from 1946 to 1948 when the marriage was annulled. Described by some of the women he got married to as emotionally and verbally abusive, he tried his luck with two more women, Doris Dowling (1952–56) and then Evelyn Keyes (1957–85), but they both ended like all the others.

6. Lana Turner – Married 8 times

One of the celebrities who has been married more than four times is the talented and beautiful actress Lana Turner who was married 8 times to 7 men before her death in 1995 at the age of 74.

Her first husband was Artie Shaw whom she married in 1940 only to divorce him a few months later. In 1942, she married Steve Crane but the union was annulled in 1943. A month later, she married him again and although they had a child together, the marriage came to a very surprising end in 1944.

In 1948, she married Bob Topping with whom she remained for the next 4 years, and then Lex Barker from 1953 to 1957, Fred May from 1960 to 1962, Robert Eaton from 1965 to 1969, and lastly, she married Ronald Pellar from 1969 to 1972.

7. Jerry Lee Lewis – Married 7 times

The Killer, was a fine singer-songwriter, musician, and pianist. As he is one of the pioneers of rock and roll and rockabilly, his talent for music was never in doubt, in the same way as his skills for getting women to marry him. His only problem, however, seemed to be keeping the women as he married 7 times without any luck.

The first woman he married was Dorothy Barton in 1952. Only 20 months later, they divorced in 1953 and he moved on to marry Jane Mitchum even before his divorce from Barton was finalized. In 1957, the marriage ended and his next marriage which enraged many was to his 13-year old first cousin, Myra Gale Brown. They were together until 1970.

The actor was married his fourth wife, Jaren Elizabeth Gunn Pate from 1971 to 1982 when she drowned only weeks before their divorce. His next marriage was to Shawn Stephens who died only 77 days after the union in 1983. In 1984, he married Kerrie McCarver with whom he remained until 2005. In 2012, he married Judith Brown.

8. Gloria Swanson – Married 6 Times

Golden Globe-winning actress Gloria Swanson also has 2 stars in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her love story almost generated as much interest as her professional life.

She was 17 when she first got married in 1916 to Wallace Beery. She later claimed that Beery raped her on the night of their wedding and when she later became pregnant, he tricked her into abortion. In 1917, they separated and finally got divorced in 1918.

From 1919 to 1925, she was married to Herbert K. Somborn who later accused her of adultery with as much as 13 men. Henri, Marquis de la Falaise de la Coudraye was the next man she married in 1925 but again, it came to an end in 1930. Even before the marriage to the French aristocrat ended, she had a relationship with the father of future President John F. Kennedy, Joseph P. Kennedy.

In 1931, she married Michael Farmer until 1934, William Davey from 1945 to 1946, and finally William Dufty in 1976. She remained with him until her death in 1983.

9. Tony Curtis – Married 6 Times

When Tony Curtis began his career as an actor which spanned six decades, one of the things he relied on more than even his talent was his good looks, although the talent was what would later sustain him.

His first marriage was to actress Janet Leigh in 1951. Although they became a golden couple of Hollywood at the time, the marriage ended in 1962. The next year, the actor and comedian married 18-year-old German-Austrian actress Christine Kaufmann but it ended in 1968.

From 1968 to 1982, he was married to Leslie Allen and from 1984 to 1992, he married Andrea Savio. Lisa Deutsch became his wife from 1993 to 1994, and then in 1998, he got married for the last time to Jill Vandenberg who was 45 years younger than him.

10. Rue McClanahan – Married 6 Times

The Golden Girls Rue McClanahan was not left out in the unending journey to the aisle. The actress got married 6 times in the 76 years that she lived.

When she was 24 in 1958, she got married to her first husband, Tom Bish but by 1959, the marriage was over and she married Norman Hartweg in the same year only for it to end again in 1961. In 1964, she married Peter DeMaio until 1971, then Gus Fisher from 1976 to 1979, and then Tom Keel from1984 to 1985. In 1997, she married Marrow Wilson with whom she remained until her death in 2010.
