Sam Allardyce was born in Dudley on the 19th of October 1954 to Scottish parents with a father who was a policeman. He was born into a family of three, with Sam the youngest of his two siblings – an older brother and sister. For his education, he attended Sycamore Green Primary School and graduated from Moon Hill School. As a child, Sam was discovered to be dyslexic.

As a young boy in a country so passionate about football, Sam Allardyce keyed into the culture at an early age. He played for the semi-professional team in his hometown, Dudley Town. While at Dudley Town, he achieved the dream of many young boys at the age of 15 when he was signed by Bolton Wanderers, a club that would later be one of the vehicles for some of the iconic moments in his career. He played for the Bolton Wanderers Youth Team, winning a couple of honors with the team before signing his first professional contract on his 17th birthday.

Allardyce played his first match for the senior team at the age of 19, playing in his team’s loss in a League Cup match. After his debut, he went on to play for Bolton Wanderers 227 times, scoring 26 times and spending a total of seven seasons at the club. He was signed by Sunderland after leaving Bolton, where he spent just a season before moving to Millwall where he spent a further two seasons.

He had a brief stint in America, playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, before he returned to England and played for Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, Preston North End, West Bromwich Albion and a couple more. He became a full-time manager with Blackpool and helped Blackpool to within an inch of promotion to the First Division in the 1995-1996 season. Since he became a full-time manager, Sam Allardyce managed teams like Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Notts County, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Everton and the national team, England. He spent the longest period in a managerial position at Bolton Wanderers, where he was a former player. He managed over 300 games for the team.

As a manager, Sam Allardyce has helped himself to successes like winning the Ireland First Division in 92, England’s third division in 1998, First Division playoffs in 2001 and Championship playoffs in 2012.
