Jenner was born William, in Mount Kisco, New York, U.S., on October 28, 1949, to William Hugh Jenner (father) and Esther Ruth (mother). The reality television personality is of Welsh, Irish, English, Dutch, and Scottish ancestry. She had a younger brother who died in a car accident on November 30, 1976, in Canton, Connecticut, shortly after her Olympic Games success. His name is Burt.
She did her freshman and sophomore years at Sleepy Hollow High School in Sleepy Hollow, New York, after which she completed her junior and seniors at Newtown High School in Newtown, Connecticut, graduating in 1968. She had a football stint at Graceland College (now Graceland University) in Lamoni, Iowa, after she bagged a football scholarship. However, her football career was forcefully ended by a knee injury.
Jenner later switched to the decathlon after she was encouraged to do by Graceland track coach L. D. Weldon, who saw her athletic potential. She would place fifth during her decathlon debut at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1970, after which she graduated with a degree in physical education from Graceland College three years later.
Shortly after she left Graceland, Jenner tied the knot with his girlfriend Chrystie Crownover. The two later moved to San Jose, California, where Crownover worked as a flight attendant. The Olympic gold medalist formally came out as a trans woman in April 2015 in a 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer, recounting how she had dealt with gender dysphoria since her younger age. But before the interview, Caitlyn used to cross-dress and even take hormone replacement therapy until she started a serious romantic relationship with , which led to marriage in the year 1992. It was after their 23-year-long marriage formally ended in 2015 that Jenner took the bold step of coming out publicly.
She debuted her new image and name in June 2015, held a renaming ceremony in July of the same year, and legally changed her gender to female and name to Caitlyn Maire Jenner in September. Since then, she has gone under the knife to look more feminine.
