Going down memory lane, Declan is said to have started his career when he auditioned for the children’s television drama Byker Grove along with his longtime friend and partner, Anthony McPartlin, and over the years, he has hosted several television shows and appeared in numerous movies with various awards and nominations to his credit. Declan Donnelly is an English television personality cum actor with the full birth name Declan Joseph Oliver Donnelly and was born on the 25th of September, 1975, in the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne, London.

Declan had is primary education at the St Michael’s Roman Catholic Primary School, and later studied at an all-boys school named St Cuthbert’s High School where he graduated from with the General Certificate Secondary Education. Declan Donnelly initially wanted to be a Catholic priest when he was young but changed his mind when he saw the girls from the Sacred Heart High School and today, he has turned into an ace TV personality.

His Career in Entertainment

The British presenter cum actor began his career in 1987 when he was twelve years old. His father saw an audition advert in a newspaper with the caption “we are in search of young actors for a children television series”. At first, when his father told him, Declan Donnelly refused to go for the audition but after several persuasion, he agreed to try. He was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the actors for the television series Byker Grove, playing the role of Duncan and this was where he met Anthony McPartlin, his neighbour who stays in the other estate but they never met until after being selected for the children television drama. The duo worked together as a team and eventually became close friends in the long-run.

After the children’s show ended in 1993, Declan Donnelly and his friend Anthony started working as show anchors on television and hosted the famous show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. They also hosted other television shows like Get me out of here, I’m a Celebrity, and the Saturday morning children’s show – SMTV Live, a show owned by the ITV. They also anchored other shows like Britain Got talent, Push the button and Red or Black.

Aside from hosting shows and working as television personalities, the duo ventured into acting professionally. Their debut movie appearance was in the film The Likely Lads, produced in 2002, and they also starred in the movie Alien Autopsy, a science thrilling movie directed by Johnny Campbell – produced in 2006. More so, each of them has separately appeared on several movies and television series to their credits.

Furthermore, Declan Donnelly and his friend Anthony owns a production station with the name Mitre Television, wherein they produce their own shows.

Family: Parents, Siblings & Wife

The English star was raised by his parents Alphonsus and Anne Donnelly. His parents are of Irish Heritage, precisely from Desertmartin, County Londonderry, Ireland and this was where they used to live before they moved to Newcastle, after buying a house in London. Declan Donnelly happens to be the youngest out of his six other siblings which include three older sisters Camalia, Morya, and Patricia, and three older brothers Dermott, Martin, and Eamonn.

Moving over to his personal life, it is known that the English talented entertainer is married to his heartthrob Ali Astall who happens to be his manager. The pair got engaged in 2014 and the following year, they were joined together by Declan’s brother Fr. Dermott Donnelly at the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, New Castle, England.

Presently, Declan Donnelly and Ali are based in London with their daughter Isla Elizabeth Anne whom they welcomed on 1st September 2018.
