Curtis Stone is a famous Australian chef who has appeared on several TV Shows including The Celebrity Apprentice 3 for which he was nicknamed “The Quiet Terminator”. He is also an author and a brand ambassador of some of the best brands in the country including Coles Supermarkets.
Curtis Stone Biography
Stone was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on the 4th of November 1975. His father Bryan Stone is an accountant but there is no information on what his mother does. His parents were divorced so Curtis grew up with his mom, Lozza (Lorraine) and his older brother Luke.
Although his dad lived away from them, Stone said he never felt his father’s absence because he was part of his growing up and checked up on him, taking an interest in everything he did, from sports to every other thing. But he did agree that his mom had a very strong influence on him. She was the strict kind of mom who is detailed and particular about everything her kids did and ate despite being a terrible cook. “Mom overcooked everything Stone said in an interview”, but she was a fantastic baker he added. His two grandmothers were fantastic cooks. Curtis Stone first learned cooking as a child from his grandmother.
Curtis desired to become a chef since he was twelve but didn’t think cooking was the surest and fastest way to make the kind of money he desired to have so after high school, he attended Victoria University, Melbourne briefly before pursuing a career in the food business. He applied for an apprenticeship at Melbourne’s Savoy Hotel and was taken. After qualifying as a chef, he began cooking at the Café Royal under chef Marco Pierre White, he also worked at Mirabelle, before landing a job at White’s Quo Vadis as the head chef.
From 2003 to 2006, he hosted a cooking show Surfing the Menu on ABC TV alongside chef Ben O’Donoghue. He hosted a lot of other cooking shows in the U.K including Saturday Kitchen, Good Food Live, Dinner in a Box, and My Restaurant Rules in Australia. In May 2006, Curtis Stone began hosting Take Home Chef on TLC, the show went on to become an international hit for the network.
In 2007, he became a regular face on NBC’s Morning Show Today, he became the network’s resident chef who visits the home of the show’s anchor Meredith Vieira to teach her how to cook after her kids branded her a bad cook. In 2011, Curtis co-hosted the 4th hour of Today with Hoda Kotb. He appeared on several other shows including Lopez Tonight, Access Hollywood, The Nate Berkus Show, Martha, Rachael Ray, The Chew, The Talk. He also appeared on the ‘s show in June 2011 to teach him how to cook a perfect date night meal.
He co-hosted America’s Next Great Restaurant, appeared on The Biggest Loser, and competed on The Celebrity Apprentice. Curtis has also appeared on The Show, as well as on The Show, MasterChef Australia All-Stars, Celebrity Family Feud, My Kitchen Rules, and Around the World in 80 Plates which he co-hosted.
Stone launched a line of cooking products and baking pans, called Kitchen Solutions, which is currently sold worldwide. He tries to use locally grown, organic ingredients whenever possible and encourages people to do same if they can.
Curtis Stones is an author with five books to his credit. His books include Relaxed Cooking with Curtis Stone: Recipes to Put You in My Favorite Mood, What’s For Dinner?, Surfing the Menu: Two Chefs, One Journey: A Fresh Food Adventure, Cooking With Curtis: Easy, Everyday and Adventurous Recipes for the Home Cook.
What’s For Dinner? published in 2013 became a New York Times bestseller which had to be translated into the Chinese language in 2014. His latest book Good Food, Good Life, was launched in Canada and the U.S in 2015. He is also a brand ambassador of some of the best brands in the country including Coles Supermarkets, Hy-Vee, Great Grains cereal and Bi-Lo.
In February 2014, Stone opened his first restaurant at Beverly Hills, California, named after his grandmother Maude.
