Bio and Age
The Astros starting pitcher was born Lance Graye McCullers Jr. on October 2, 1993, in Tampa, Florida to the family of Lance McCullers Sr and Stacie McCullers. Like most others that go far in any sport, Lance began playing very early in life thanks to his father who as pointed out above was also a baseball player.
The senior McCullers spent seven seasons in the MLB as a Pitcher for the San Diego Padres from 1985 to 1988, New York Yankees from 1989 to 1990, Detroit Tigers in 1990, and then the Texas Rangers in 1992. He retired from playing just a year before his son was born. Nonetheless, the only thing he wanted for his kid as he was growing was just to play and enjoy baseball without any pressure and so he hardly makes any reference to his playing days.
Even though Lance McCullers Jr’s main sport had always been baseball, he also played a little soccer with his friend with whom he also played baseball since they were both in high school. Unfortunately, Jose Fernandez who also played in the MLB died in 2016 following a boating crash. To pay tribute to him, Lance would wear his number on his shoe.
McCullers Jr. went to the Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida from where he graduated. During his days in high school, he was an exceptional player who in 2012, was named the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year. In that year, he went 13-0 for the school team.
Without going to college, Lance McCullers Jr. decided to enter the 2012 MLB Draft and was selected by the Houston Astros as the 41st overall pick.
For his minor league career, he pitched for the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Class A Midwest League, which went on to win the Midwest League championship in 2013. He was then promoted to the Midwest League championship and played for the Lancaster JetHawks. Lance began playing in the Class AA Texas League for the Corpus Christi Hooks before he gained promotion to play in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League for Fresno Grizzlies and then the MLB all in 2015.
Since then, it has been the Houston Astros that Lance McCullers Jr. has played for. In 2017, the team won the World Series and he made the All-Star.
Lance McCullers Jr – Wife and Parents
As stated above, the parents of Lance McCullers Jr are Lance McCullers Sr. and Stacie McCullers. Apart from the fact that the two have supported their son all the way, the younger McCullers has described his father was his best friend with whom he trained and went to watch matches when he was growing up.
In 2015, he got married to Kara McCullers (nee Kilfoile). Although it is not known when they began dating, one of their earliest pictures on social media showed them together in 2012. After the 2013 season, Lance took the woman who would later be his wife on a trip to Paris and proposed to her there.
The coupled tied the knot in December 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tampa. They had their honeymoon in Italy where they visited places like Rome, Florence, Venice, and the Amalfi coast.
