Roberto Osuna’s Bio
Roberto was born in Juan José Ríos, Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico on the 7th of February 1995 as Roberto Osuna Quintero. Roberto is actually from the lineage of baseball pitchers, so it was almost normal for him to follow in the ‘family tradition’. His father Roberto Sr. played in the Mexican league for twenty-two seasons as a pitcher.
His uncle, Antonio Osuna, also played professional baseball in the MLB for eleven seasons as a pitcher. And although Antonio spent most of his eleven years professional career playing for Los Angeles Dodgers, he also pitched for several other MLB teams like Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, and New York Yankees.
Osuna dropped out of school at the age of twelve to help his family by helping his father pick and sell vegetables. After each day’s work, Roberto Sr. taught his son the art of pitching which he grew up with and decided to make a career out of it.
Career
Roberto Osuna began his professional career in the Mexican league with Diablos Rojos del México in the year 2011. He played a total of thirteen games and pitched to a 0–1 record, 5.49 ERA, twelve strikeouts and 192⁄3 innings before he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for $1.5 million. He spent the next three seasons their minor league organization before he was promoted to the major league in 2015.
He was first invited to the Spring training as a non-roster invitee, he had no expectations whatsoever of making to the major team list out of camp but things turned around for him at the camp and he found his name on the list after impressing the management of the franchise at the Spring training.
He made his MLB debut in an April 2015 game against the New York Yankees where he struck out Alex Rodriguez and got Stephen Drew to flyout. Roberto Osuna would become the youngest pitcher in the history of the franchise, as well as the first player born in 1995 to ever play in the MLB. He also became the most reliable arm in Blue Jays’ bullpen, recording 1.38 ERA in ten appearances.
The following month (May 2015) he recorded his first win in a 10–6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In the game, he pitched 1 2⁄3 scoreless innings and became the youngest pitcher (twenty years, hundred days) to record a win for the Blue Jays. During the 2015 American League Division Series, he recorded 5-out save in the 5th and final game and became the youngest pitcher in the history of American league record such save in a postseason and the 2nd to do so in the history of the MLB.
He ended his 2017 season with thirty-nine saves, a 3–4 record, 3.38 ERA, and eighty-three strikeouts and sixty-four innings. The pitcher was not able to reach a salary agreement with the Jays for the 2018 season which led to salary arbitration. He lost the case to the Blue Jays and in February 2018, he signed $5.3 million deal with the team meant to run for one year. In that same year, he recorded his 100th career save and became the youngest pitcher in the history of the MLB to record a 100 saves.
In June, Roberto Osuna was banned for seventy-five games for violating the league’s policy on domestic assault. The following month, he was traded to the Houston Astros in exchange for David Paulino, Héctor Pérez, and Ken Giles. In August, the Astros reinstated him to their active roster.
Roberto Osuna Wife, Girlfriend
We are certain who he is currently dating but what we are certainly sure of is that the star pitcher isn’t married. He, however, has two children – a three years son who he had with Alejandra Roman Cota and a daughter he welcomed with an undisclosed woman in September 2017.
In May 2018, the Mexican baseball player was arrested and charged with assault by the Toronto police. He allegedly assaulted the mother of his son when she visited him from Mexico with their son. Following the news of his alleged assault, the league placed him on an administrative leave and would later give him a seventy-five game ban without pay for violating the league’s domestic violence policy.
Shortly after the assault, Cota reportedly returned to Mexico and refused to show up in Toronto to testify against Roberto, thus, the charges against him were withdrawn in exchange for a peace bond.
