Right before our eyes, many black celebrity kids have grown into stylish stars with some surpassing their parents in the limelight. We have also seen a lot of them steal the red carpet shine without even breaking a sweat. While some of them followed in their equally famous parents’ footsteps, others decided to blaze their own trail in another part of the entertainment industry, either way, they are obviously doing a great job that we are all proud of.
From a different angle, we still have some young black celebrities who were not fortunate enough to have fame handed down to them by celebrity parents. Those in this group worked their way to fame by following their dreams and mostly with the support of their parents.
From Jaden Smith to Blue Ivy Carter, here are some of our favorite black celebrity kids who have also become paparazzi favorites.

1. Zoë Kravitz
With a long line of entertainers in her family, Kravitz already had her work cut out for her as a child. She is the daughter of rock star and actor Lenny Kravitz and , an accomplished actress. Even though the spotlight found her right from the day she was born, launched her career as an actress with her role in the film No Reservations in 2007. She has gone on to star in other blockbusters to critical acclaim.
Zoë is also a model and has worked with big brands like Elle and Venus Zine on different campaigns. In 2009, she featured as the face of Vera Wang’s Princess fragrance. The young Kravitz is also in a band known as Lolawolf. The band is doing quite well, touring with the likes of and more. Evidently, Lenny and Lisa are proud of their daughter and so are we.
2. Cordell Broadus
Legendary rapper is sharing the spotlight with his son who, at the age of 20, has already landed a major modeling campaign with MCM Worldwide and another one with Kenneth Cole. Cordell may not be dropping hot bars like his famous dad but he is certainly going to make it big as a model.

The mini Queen Bey is black celebrity kids goals. One of the perks of being the daughter of mega superstars is that the world can easily become your stage. With such parents as pop icon and rap legend Blue got an early start as a celebrity and has warmed her way into many hearts worldwide with her innocent and adorable enthusiasm.
Born on January 7, 2012, the little angel might not be thriving in a particular profession but give it time, she will surely tap into the prospects that are already innate in her. For now, we are enjoying the heart-warming moments we have come to share with the social media darling.
4. Jaden Smith
A spitting image of his father, both in appearance and career, , the son of Hollywood heavyweights – Jada Pinkett Smith and has really made us proud. He is one of those black celebrity kids we can’t imagine the entertainment industry without them in it. Jaden is currently treading the same path his father did as an American actor, rapper, singer, and songwriter. He made his film debut in The Pursuit of Happyness alongside his father and, is also popular for his appearances in top films like The Karate Kid, The Get Down, After Earth and a lot more. Jaden has also made us proud in the music industry, he released his eponymous album (Syre) in 2017.
On the fashion side of things, Jaden Smith has always left us with a drool whenever he makes a public appearance. His fashion sense is out of this world (the handsome lad once walked the red carpet clad in his own hair). There’s really no telling what he will do next but be sure it’s going to be awesome.
5. Sofia Richie
She might have a hard time convincing people she’s black because of her very light skin and hair but her exploits in the fashion industry speak for themselves. Born to legendary crooner , decided to carve out her own niche as a model instead of following daddy’s footsteps. She has worked with top brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Chanel, among others.
6. Genesis Tennon
Adopted by award-winning Hollywood star and her husband Julius Tennon in 2011, Genesis doesn’t need blood ties to follow in her parents’ footsteps. Viola is quite a role model to her cute daughter who confessed she wants to be an actress because her mom is awesome at her job. As cute as a button, Genesis was three years old when she played her first role in the biopic Get On Up in 2014. She appeared alongside her mother who was also directing. These two are a match made in heaven.
7. Selah Marley
She is the next Marley to look out for. Selah is a spitting image of her multi-faceted musician and all-around entertainer mother, Lauryn Hill. She is also the daughter of Rohan Marley and the granddaughter of Bob Marley. The young Marley has tried her hands at both modeling and singing and we are not surprised she is killing them all. Selah is perfectly gifted on both sides of her family.
8. Willow Smith
She is the daughter of Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as the younger sister of Jaden Smith. But if you thought she is riding on the wave of her family’s fame, you better think again. Willow Camille Reign Smith is in her own right, an American singer, actress, and dancer who has already accomplished a lot in her teens.
Her film debut was in 2007’s I Am Legend with her father. Her musical side manifested later in 2010 when she released her singles Whip My Hair and 21st Century Girl with the former peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and its video grabbing a nomination for Video of the Year at the 2011 BET Awards. She is currently signed to her mentor Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation as the youngest to join the company so far.
9. John David Washington
A closer look at the cast of HBO’s Ballers would reveal a familiar face, starring alongside in the comedy series. John David Washington is the son of celebrated Hollywood hunk . Apparently, an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. John first played college football at Morehouse and later turned professional. His professional journey as a running back began in 2006 when he struck a deal with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. He also spent four seasons playing for the United Football League’s Sacramento Mountain Lions.
The acting bug soon bit John Washington who began to tread his father’s path. His roles as Ricky Jerret in Ballers and Detective Ron Stallworth in the 2018 film BlacKkKlansman are just some of his popular stints. The younger Washington has also starred in other remarkable movies and if his father’s portfolio in the industry is anything to go by, we can expect bigger things from him in the nearest future.
10. Skai Jackson
While most celebrity kids tap some current from their already famous parents, is her own trailblazer. We can’t resist the urge to name her among the black celebrity kids we have grown to be proud of for their achievements in the entertainment industry.
Starting out as a child model, little Skai had the support of her parents but they are not known in the industry which goes a long way to say she got where she is today via her adorable charm and talent. Born in 2002, Skai started as a child model and appeared in a slew of national commercials. In 2007, she appeared in her first notable role as an actress, playing 3-year-old Destiny in independent film Liberty Kid. She has since played roles in other TV shows and movies including Rescue Me (2008), The Rebound (2009), Arthur (2011) and The Smurfs (2011). But then, the role that endeared her to audiences is as Zuri Ross in the Disney Channel sitcom Jessie which lasted from 2011 to 2015.
Asides the aforementioned, a lot of other black celebrity kids are springing up every now and then and making us really proud. A quick shout out to singer Brandy’s daughter Sy’rai who doesn’t just look like her mom but has a singing voice similar to that of the sensational songbird; and Tichina Arnold’s daughter Alijah Kai Haggins who has an amazing voice, just like her mother.
Being born to celebrity parents doesn’t guarantee automatic success and that’s one reason to be proud of these black celebrity kids who made the most of the opportunity created by their parents to build their own robust career. A few years from now, they will surely take over the entertainment world to a whole new height.
