Curtis Harper is a professional American boxer who competes in the heavyweight division. Since the boxer turned pro in 2010, he has had 19 professional fights out of which he lost only six. Harper has fought against many world title challengers including Gerald Washington, Efe Ajagba, and Chris Arreola. Unfortunately, he’s yet to win any title for himself.
Curtis Harper was born in Jacksonville, Florida in the United States on June 25, 1988. He was born to black American parents Harper and his wife. This boxer grew up in Jacksonville where he completed his basic education before starting his boxing career in earnest.
Even as it has been difficult to point out exactly when Curtis started his boxing career, it is known that he participated in various youth boxing competitions organized in his neighborhood in Jacksonville. After a few years of competing in the amateur league, Curtis ended his youth career in 2009 and became a professional boxer the following year. It is said that Curtis was one of the toughest fighters during his youth career. This is hard to believe as he didn’t take many titles.
Professional Career
Curtis Harper made his professional debut in February 2010 against Yasmany Consuegra. The fight was held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in Hollywood. Being a newbie, Curtis didn’t create many opportunities in the game which he lost to Yasmany via a knockout. He recorded his first professional victory in 2011 after knocking out David Loy in the second round.
Curtis continued to do a good job while he showed a lot of improvement in his games. He had his third match against Lamar Davis in August 2011 and was declared the winner at the end of the ten round fight. The boxer also wowed his numerous fans as he easily triumphed over his opponent Nathaniel James in December of the same year.
Harper had four fights in 2012, recording a streak of victory against Michael Davis, Joseph Rabotte, Donell Gray, and Dustin Nichols. He suffered his first major loss against the world title challenger Gerald Washington – he was knocked out in the ten-round fight. The American boxer recorded the third loss in his professional career against Donovan Dennis in July 2013. Afterward, he triumphed over the next five opponents he faced.
In 2015, he lost to Chris Arreola by unanimous decision and in 2017, he suffered a knock out in the fight against Zhilei Zhang. Also in the latter year, Curtis clinched a victory against Andrew Greeley. It was in August 2018 that the boxer walked out of a fight against Efe Ajagba. While everyone was anticipating a good exchange of blows, the upcoming star stepped out of the ring after the bell rang and left the arena.
After the incident, it was discovered that he abandoned the fight because he felt he didn’t get enough pay for the bout. His Nigerian opponent was declared the winner by disqualification.
