Young and energetic New Orleans Pelicans’ point guard, Elfrid Payton made his entry into the NBA in 2014 after the Philadelphia 76ers selected him as the tenth overall pick. He was immediately traded to the Orlando Magic on the night of the draft in exchange for and other future draft picks.
After spending about three years and a half with the Orlando Magic, he was again traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2018 in exchange for a 2nd-round pick at the 2018 NBA Draft. But then, his stay with the side was very short as he signed a new deal with the New Orleans Pelicans in July 2018.

Elfrid Payton Biography (Age)
Payton was born in Gretna, Louisiana on the 22nd day of February 1994 to Elfrid and Danielle Payton. He attended John Ehret High School, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, where he played basketball with the school team. After high school, Payton headed to the University of Louisiana for his college career.
He had an impressive freshman season. As s sophomore, he recorded an average of 15.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 5.5 assists per game to earn the first team All-Sun Belt Conference. During his junior season (2013/2014), Payton averaged 19.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 5.9 assists per game and was named among the top defensive players in college basketball. His averages helped the team to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Elfrid won other awards that year, including the conference Defensive Player of the Year award, the first team All-Sun Belt title, and the Lefty Driesell Award as the National College Defensive Player of the Year. After his junior season, Elfrid Payton would forgo his senior season for the NBA Draft.
NBA Career
The Philadelphia 76ers would select Payton as the 10th overall pick at the 2014 NBA Draft but immediately traded him off to the Orlando Magic on the night of the draft. He signed his rookie contract with the team and made his first NBA appearance in October in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans which ended in a loss. Payton would later make a season-best of twenty-two points and twelve assists in a January 2015 game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
He recorded his first career triple-double the following month in a game against the Dallas Mavericks, his second straight triple-double came two days later and that made him the first player in the history of the Magic to record consecutive triple-doubles and the first NBA rookie after Antoine Walker to reach that mark.
At the end of his rookie season, he had been named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month (January) and was also named a Rising Stars Challenge participant. The next season, Elfrid played 116 games before an ankle injury kept him away from for a while.
During the 2017/18 season, Payton missed 8 games due to a left hamstring injury and after spending 3 and a half seasons with the Orlando Magic, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns in February 2018 in exchange for a second-round pick at the 2018 NBA Draft. Two days later, Payton was playing for the Suns in a game against the Denver Nuggets, recording nineteen points and 6 rebounds in just 35 minutes of play.
His second game for the Suns was against the Golden State Warriors, in that game, Elfrid Payton scored a game-high of twenty-nine points. Two days later, he recorded a triple-double with thirteen points, eleven rebounds and twelve assists in a game against Utah Jazz. In July 2018, Payton signed a new deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Payton was part of the U.S under 19 basketball team that represented the nation at the FIBA Under-19 World Championship that held in the Czech Republic in 2013. The team won the championship after defeating the Serbian team.
His Family
Elfrid is the only son of Elfrid Payton Sr., a former football player who played for a number of teams under the Canadian Football League (CFL) and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
Payton may be the only son of his parents but he is definitely not an only child. He has five sisters – Brianna, Ashley, Courtney, Shamyra, and Erin.
