Luc Mbah a Moute’s Bio
Luc was born in 1986 in Yaounde, Cameroon. He learned how to play both basketball and football as a teenager in Cameroon. He taught himself how to shoot and dribble by throwing balls at a street hoop on a lamp post. He then proceeded to the Cameroon National Youth Team as a 15-year-old. Luck shone on Luc as he received a scholarship to Montverde Academy in Florida after he was discovered while playing for the inaugural NBA Basketball without Borders camp in South Africa.
He found it hard to socialize at first as he could only say a few words in English but gradually he adapted and was soon at ease in his new surroundings. He was coached by Kevin Sutton while he was in Montverde from 2001 to 2005. He learned the American style of basketball and soon felt comfortable on the court.
While he was training one hot summer, UCLA coach, Ben Howland who was on a recruiting trip noticed his relentlessness while practicing and he was offered a scholarship to UCLA the next day. Luc was very good at the defensive end and was always guarding the opponents best plays and fans soon took him to heart after being impressed by his energy and passion. They wore T-shirts with the inscription “Moute Kicks Boute” and they nicknamed Luc Mbah a Moute “the Fresh Prince”. Luc ended his career in the UCLA wonderfully ranking the No. 15 on the rebounder charts with a total of 775 rebounds.
Pro Career
Milwaukee Bucks drafted him as the seventh pick of the second round of the 2008 draft and Luc soon worked his way to the Bucks fans hearts and soon became a crowd favorite. He overtook Charlie Villanueva as the Bucks’ starting power forward with only nine games into the season. As a starter in his second game, he recorded a career high of 19 points and 17 rebounds in a 101-96 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. His defensive contribution to the Bucks game earned him plaudits.
Luc Mbah a Moute spent five years with the Bucks as a great wing defender; however, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings on July 12, 2013, and later to Minnesota Timberwolves on November 26, 2013, in an exchange for Derrick William.
Luc signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on August 23, 2014, and then he moved to the Los Angeles Clippers on September 25, 2015. After two years with the Clippers, Luc signed with the Houston Rockets for the 2017-2018 season.
Mbah a Moute recorded the highest points of his NBA career with the Rockets, however, he missed some games when he dislocated his shoulder twice in a season. He has returned to the LA Clippers for the 2018 season.
