Based on his college performance, he earned the honors for conference player of the year in the Pac-12 as well as a consensus second-team All-American in 2017. Read on to discover more interesting details about the young professional.
Dillon Brooks Bio
Dillon Brooks was born in Mississauga, Ontario, on 22 January 1996. He began playing his favorite sport, basketball, on the Findley Prep team while he was studying at the Henderson International School located in Nevada. Upon graduation, he gained admission into the University of Oregon where he kick-started his career as a collegiate basketball player. In his first year at the institution, he was named to the Pac-12 Conference all-freshman team after impressively averaging 11.5 points per game.
In his sophomore year, Dillon Brooks was an exceptional team player as he led his teammates and the Ducks, in general, to be ranked at number ten (10) in the national ranking. This also afforded the Ducks to clinch a Pac-12 Conference regular season title. By the time the season was over, the Sporting American News named Dillon Brooks a third-team All-American as well as a first-team All-Pac-12.
Having averaged 3.1 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 16.7 points per game, the accolades kept coming as the “United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA)” named him the District IX player of the year. Dillon Brooks later decided to stay back with Oregon for a third season after the successful end of the 2015-2016 season. Unfortunately for him, a foot injury was sustained by him in 2016’s summer, causing him to miss the trip to Spain during Oregon’s offseason.
Notwithstanding, he was still named to the Associated Press’ preseason All-America team on the 7th of November 2016, strictly based on his performance at the time. Subsequently, after the 2016-2017 season was done, he ended his college career and hired an agent after declaring his eligibility for the 2017 NBA draft.
With this announcement, he was brought to the attention of many scouts. He was then drafted with the 45th pick by the Houston Rockets in the 2017 NBA draft but was traded not too long after his draft to the Memphis Grizzlies on the 21st of July 2017. This contract with the Grizzlies took the form of a three-year rookie deal. As with his previous performance and prowess at his high school and collegiate teams, Dillon came through with 19 points scored during the season opener with the Grizzlies. Interestingly, this score went on record as the most points scored by a player of Canadian heritage in an NBA debut.
Family
Not much is known about Dillon Brooks’ family and we attribute this to his desire to keep his family members off the spotlight, knowing how uncomfortable prying the media can be at times. Nevertheless, one thing we do know is the name of his beloved mother as he has fondly said in some interviews. Her name is Diane Brooks and Dillon has also stated that she was very instrumental in building him up to the man that he is today. This is because as a child, he was diagnosed with having a reading and writing disability, however, his mum kept him motivated by using sports. There is no further information about his father or if he has any siblings.
Height, Weight And Other Body Measurements
The game of basketball is one that is on another level as a sport. In this type of game, athletes are mostly expected to be very tall with a relatively chiselled body that packs a lot of power. But ultimately, height happens to be the defining mark, that is if a basketball player hopes to make it successfully in the sport. When it comes to Dillon Brooks, he has never be faulted on the height department as he stands tall at an enviable height of 6 feet 5 inches (1.98 m) with a good weight of 220 lbs (100 kg).
