Kim Barker is a multi-talented American journalist and war zone reporter who specializes in investigative journalism as well as narrative writing. She is best known for being the author of the memoir titled The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan where she detailed her life experiences while reporting from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Kim Barker was born and raised in Billings, Montana, in the United States of America. She is a very private person; hence, nothing much is known about her childhood, date of birth and so on. Barker reported the southeastern Iran earthquake that claimed the lives of over 26,000 people in 2004; the assassination and funeral of the Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and also conducted various interviews with the members of the Taliban and the warlords.
She returned to the United States in 2009 after which she wrote a book titled The Taliban Shuffle, detailing her life experiences throughout her stay in the war-torn countries. By the ending of 2009 and early 2010, Barker worked as Edward R. Murrow press fellow at the Council of Foreign Relations in New York. There, she focused on Afghanistan, Pakistan, and United States Policy. Her book – The Taliban Shuffle was launched in 2011 and it became the basis for the film titled Whiskey Tango Foxtrot that was released in 2016.
Kim Barker is currently working as a metro reporter with The New York Times. Her portfolio covers narrative writing and investigative reporting. She joined the New York Times in mid-2014. During the course of her very successful journalism career, Kim has recorded several awards in her name. She has been honored with an investigative reporting award from the Society of Professional Journalists and Investigative Reporters and Editors. In addition, Barker is equally a lifetime member of the Council of Foreign Relations, among others.
