Chris Godwin is an American football player who started out as the wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was picked 84th overall, in the third round by Bucs in the 2017 National Football League, NFL draft. He also played college football at Penn State Nittany Lions.
Born on February 27, 1996, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rod Christopher Godwin took up interest and actively participated in football after enrolling in Middletown High School, Delaware. In high school, he was a key member responsible for a 41–7 record over his four years. He made two State Championships, recording over 700 yards each year and had 1,150 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns during his senior year.
Godwin graduated from high school with several honors including Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year 2013. He was named All-state as a sophomore; four-time All-conference kick returner and wide receiver; was a member of the Honor Roll and Academic All-State selection. He emerged as a top player in Delaware by Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN, and rated four-star by major recruiting services.
Chris Godwin’s NFL Career
Godwin opted to forgo his final year of eligibility at Pennsylvania State University to join the 2017 NFL Draft. He recorded 338 yards on 26 receptions in all thirteen games in his freshman year. It got better in his sophomore year with 1,101 yards and five touchdowns in five games. However, he had a few rough games in his junior year until week four against the Temple Owls where he recorded a touchdown, running 117 yards. To mark his exit as a Nittany Lion, he scored a career-high 187 yards, nine catches and two touchdowns in the Rose Bowl loss to USC in 2016.
He stood out as one of the best receiving corps in the 2017 NFL Combine considering he had one of the top vertical jumps and 40 yard dash time among wide receivers. Emerging as the top performer in both 20-yard shuttles with 4 flat and bench press with 19 reps during the week-long showcase, Godwin was interviewed by multiple teams until Buccaneers picked him in the third round (84th overall) of the draft.
He made his NFL debut in a 29-7 win against the Chicago Bears on September 17, catching his first pro passes. Week 3 into the game with Bucs, in a match against Minnesota Vikings, Godwin recorded his first three career receptions, in 44 total yards. He only scored seven receptions on ten targets in his first eight weeks of 2017 but his workload accelerated in the final eight weeks. By November 12, in the victory against the New York Jet, he ran 68 yards on 5 receptions.
Through the season with Bucs, Godwin participated in a total of 16 games, running 525 yards on 34 receptions, 1 touchdown and saw two victories with the team. He earned the NFC Offensive Player of the week in the 2017 season-finale, after catching nine passes for 111 yards plus a touchdown in a 31 – 24 victory against New Orleans Saints.

Chris Godwin’s Girlfriend
Godwin’s girlfriend Mariah DelPercio is a fitness guru; a certified personal trainer and the daughter of former Middletown coach, Mark DelPercio. It isn’t clear when they started dated but they’ve been together for eight years and counting. The couple has been seen together on several occasions, especially the gym and when he’s on the field training. As an expert trainer, Maria seems like the perfect match and motivation for Godwin. Even coaches think it gives him the upper hand in his career.
In one of her Instagram posts, Maria described Godwin as a likeable and most genuine guy who leaves good impression everywhere he goes.
In 2017, the duo launched a fundraising campaign to help families affected by Hurricane Harvey and Irma in Texas and Florida. While the hurricanes didn’t damage Godwin and Mariah’s apartment, others were not as lucky. Speaking about his intentions to contribute his quarters to the society, Chris Godwin said his fame allows him to reach a larger audience and get the attention needed to families affected by the disastrous event.
