Ricky Martin was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on December 24, 1971. His parents were career folks as his mother, Nereida Morales was an accountant and his father Enrique Martin Negroni, a psychologist. His full birth name is Enrique Jose Martin Morales and he is the second youngest among his siblings.

Martin moved to New York not long after turning 18 but a couple of months later, he moved to Mexico City where he achieved modest fame. He was cast in the Mexican telenovela Alcanzar Una Estrella. Beyond this, he released his debut album, Ricky Martin in November 1991. Since then, it has been a story of success in his career alongside inevitable challenges.

There was an instance a journalist asked him to comment on his sexual orientation. Martin dated the shy Gabriela at the peak of her powers as a tennis player in the early 90s. They were together for 5 months, a romance Gabriella regards as one of the “craziest” she has had. She remains unmarried and has never had children.

Alejandra Guzman

The pair of Puerto Rican singers were a couple for a little while after Ricky’s relationship with Gabriella ended. The relationship was short-lived, ending in 1992. Afterward, Ricky in an interview said the relationship was called off by Alejandra, he felt a little heartbroken following the end of the affair.

Rebecca de Alba

Probably his most committed relationship with a woman. Martin had an on and off relationship with Rebecca, a Mexican TV host for 14 years, this was between 1994 and 2005. There were times when they had plans for marriage and both looked forward to having a family together. Aside from tagging her “the perfect woman”, Martin disclosed that Rebecca was aware of his sexuality and respected the fact of him being gay.

Ines Misan

Between 2000 and 2002, Martin was rumored to be dating his friend, Ines Misan. It is believed that what they had lasted for two years. Though statements from Martin have been geared towards playing down whatever they had, Ines has never hidden the fact that there were mutual romantic feelings between them.

Alessandra Ambrosio

In 2004, Martin was rumored to have been with Alessandra but the stories have neither been confirmed or denied by either of them.

Martin began dating Carlos, an economist, in 2008. He was the first man the entertainer was with after coming out as gay. The relationship was long-term and it was during the time they shared together that Martin had his twin boys, Valentino and Matteo via a surrogate mom. His relationship with Carlos ended in January 2014.

Jwan Yosef

His next relationship was with Syrian Swedish painter, Jwan Yosef. Six months into the relationship, the pair got engaged, this was in November 2016. A year later (in 2018), they were married. Their wedding, though anticipated, was kept away from the public, even the snoopiest of paparazzi didn’t get a whiff of the wedding. It only became public knowledge after a reporter asked him about it on the red carpet.
