With such a promising college football career ahead of him, Aaron Donald had before him scholarship offers from the University of Toledo, the University of Akron, the University of Pittsburgh and Rutgers University. From these, he choose to stay close to home in Pittsburgh which saw him playing for the Panthers.
In Aaron’s freshman season (2010), the lad played as a reserve defensive tackle in all 13 games of the season he played recording 11 tackles, 3 for a loss and 2 sacks. Coming into his sophomore season (2011), he got more playing time as a starter which saw him post better stats; 47 tackles, 16 for a loss, 11 sacks with 1 forced fumble. Aaron Donald at this time had already set course for greater accomplishment as far as college football was concerned, he had 64 tackles, 18.5 for a loss, 5.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble in this third season (2012) of college football. Finally in his last season (2013) he recorded 59 tackles, a career high 28.5 for loss, 11 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. Aaron was adjuged the best defensive player in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and an unanimous All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
He entered the NFL as the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft selected by the St. Louis Rams. His four-year rookie contract was worth $10.13 million with $5.69 million signing bonus and a fifth year option. He got off to a good start from the blast of the whistle in his first regular season game against the Minnesota Vikings. Donald played a total of 16 games in his first season from which he started 12. He started all 16 games he played in 2015 and 16 just as he also started all 14 games he played in the 2017 season. The Rams evoked the fifth year option in his contract.
