Although the footballer is new in the National Football League (NFL), he boasts an impressive career timeline which features his outstanding performances in high school and college, highlights, and awards, some of which include – two-time SEC Champion (2015, 2016), First-team All-SEC (2017), USA Today Freshman All-America (2015), Second-team All-SEC (2016), and two-time CFP National Champion (2015, 2017).
Calvin Ridley’s Age and Early Life
The Falcons wide receiver is the son of Colin Ridley (father) and Kassna Daniels (mother). He was born on December 20, 1994, in Coconut Creek, Florida. The NFL player, born Calvin Orin Ridley, has a younger brother called Riley Ridley, who is also a football player.
As gathered, their father was deported to Guyana when the footballer was seven years old and ever since he has not set his eyes on him. Calvin and his brother spent a couple of years in Austrian-based international children foster home in Coconut Creek, along with their cousin called Shawn Burgess-Becker, who grew up loving and playing football with the brothers.
The trio was later adopted by a man called Tom Becker and his wife, Melanie Becker in 2011. Tom met the Ridley brothers during a 7-on-7 tournament in 2010, after which they moved in his apartment the following year. Melanie is a teacher at Lion’s Creek Middle School in Coconut Creek.
Calvin Ridley studied at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, along with his cousin, Burgess-Becker. During his senior year in Monarch, he featured only in three games as a result of Florida age restriction rules, which bars players over the age of 19 and 9 months to be eligible. Upon graduation, Calvin was seen as the number one receiver in his class and also listed as a five-star recruit.
Ridley’s cousin signed with Alabama in 2015 and later got transferred to UCF the following year. Burgess-Becker has a brother called Pasqual. He formerly played football at Division II West Florida in Pensacola.
The Coconut Creek-born wide receiver (Calvin Ridley) had his college education at the University of Alabama, where he played football and recorded over 1,000 yards receiving, three receptions for 22 yards, and seven touchdown receptions in his junior year. The wide receiver announced on January 10, 2018, that he would forego his senior year at the University of Alabama to join the 2018 NFL Draft.
He currently represents the Atlanta Falcons football franchise in the NFL after he was selected by the team as the 26th overall in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He went on to sign a four-year contract worth $10.9 million with the team on July 5, 2018. The deal, as detailed on his profile, came with a signing bonus worth $6.1 million.
Who is His Brother?
Calvin’s younger brother goes by the name Riley Ridley. He was born on July 22, 1996, and currently represents Georgia Bulldogs football team in the NFL. While growing up, when Calvin Ridley was probably around 8 or 9 years old, his younger brother, who was 16 months younger than him, defeated him in a 20-yard race, and Calvin wasn’t happy about the defeat.
Ever since the brothers became known in the football community, they have played together as a team twice – their first game together was when they were at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida while their second game was as members of the Florida Fire 7-on-7 team.
In their budding years, Riley and Calvin often dreamt of meeting themselves on the field in NFL or college. The duo finally grabbed the opportunity in early 2018 when they were fielded on a much bigger stage against each other in the College Football Playoff National Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The game was watched by their mother and family members who watched the brothers settle their score, as Calvin’s Alabama defeated Riley’s Georgia. The siblings, at the end of the college football’s national championship, met and exchanged jerseys on the field.
Riley Ridley represents the Georgia Bulldogs football team as a wide receiver and stands a chance of joining his brother in the NFL after graduation.
