Most of the renowned football players began their career from a college team and then got drafted into the professional team. Taco Charlton, the American who played for the University of Michigan football team and is now the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive end is definitely no exception.

Beyond his career, this piece covered other things you may need to know about him; from his bio, parents, and family to his body stats, here are the facts of Taco’s life.

Taco Charlton Bio

This Football star was born as Vidauntae Charlton to his parents on the 7th of November in 1994. His mother Tamara was placed on bed rest while she was pregnant with him, it is said that he showed signs suggesting he was going to be a premature baby. During this time, the ad campaign for Taco Bell with the caption “make a run for the border” was being aired and it seemed to aptly explain what the unborn baby was doing.

As such, his grandmother began referring to him as Taco and his mother started writing the name in all his cards. By the time he was born, he had a nickname which has stuck to date.

Taco was born in Colombus, Ohio and raised in Pickerington also in Ohio. He has a younger sister as his only sibling. As a child, he didn’t love football that much but was a fan of the Ohio State team. Being a fan was practically ingrained in him as a kid living in that vicinity. Little did he know that fate was to bring some twist his way by making him play for a rival team. His dream, however, was to play basketball in college, he admits to only playing football initially just to please his dad but well, life happens.

In high school, Taco Charlton played basketball and was good at it. Shuttling between his love for basketball and following his father’s love for football was quite tasking for him though. He had to lose as much as 12 pounds every spring to get in shape for basketball and then put on a whole 20-30 pounds to be fit enough for football – such a strain! He also made a record of 19 sacks and 116 tackles.

On completion of his high school education in Pickerington, Ohio at Pickerington High School Central, he moved on with a football scholarship to the University of Michigan and played college football. Taco had a very interesting time at Michigan that led to his being named by the media and coaches as one of the All-Big ten defensive first-team. In 2013, he appeared in 10 matches as a freshman and was the backup defensive end. The following year as a sophomore, he appeared in 12 games making a start in one while recording 3.5 sacks and 19 tackles. As a junior, he recorded 5.5 sacks and 30 tackles in the 13 games he appeared in. Taco as a senior recorded an amazing 38 tackles and 10 sacks; this culminated into a total of 91 tackles and 19 sacks in his college football career.

On April 27, 2017, after so much anticipation from the Cowboys called and Taco’s professional football career began. He signed a $10.02 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys for a four-year contract which included a $5.43 million signing bonus and a guaranteed $7.73 million. He recorded his first tackle in the game against the Denver Broncos, which the Cowboys unfortunately lost. With the first season over and the second about to begin, Taco’s and Cowboys’ fans have their fingers crossed on this football player.

His nickname seems to open up endorsement deals for him. These include the Taco Bueno and Big Red partnership deals.
