Jalen Ramsey is an all-pro cornerback of the NFL who has become quite notorious for not taking shit especially when it is directed at the Jacksonville Jaguars with whom he plies his trade. The once soft-spoken, quiet Nashville kid is now best known for his trash talking and ability to rile up opposition players which have led to feuds with players like Baltimore receiver Steve Smith Sr., Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and Cincinnati’s , among others.
Regardless of all the side entertainment, Ramsey has ever since he entered the league, continued to grow as a player to become one of the NFL’s top cover corners. His extraordinary work ethic and competitiveness coupled with his natural physical abilities make him a dream player for any coach in the league.
Jalen Ramsey’s Biography
On the 24th of October, 1994, in Smyrna, a suburb of Nashville, Tennessee, Jalen Lattrel Ramsey was born as the second child to his parents; Margie and Lamont Ramsey. The future NFL superstar had a normal upbringing that was dominated with sports, as his father, a firefighter who had played college football, taught his sons the sport with the hopes of them reaching the big leagues.
As a schoolboy, Ramsey excelled both in class and on the field. While working hard to win a math bee in middle school, he was also playing and somewhat dominating older kids in football. He first went to Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tennessee, but soon left taking his intelligence and skills to Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee. Here, Ramsey participated in both football and track & field and was very dominant in both sports. He notably shattered the 16-year-old Tennessee state record in long jump. However, it was his footballing skills that caught the attention of colleges, with the University of Tennessee offering him a scholarship.
Despite that offer, and originally committing to play for the University of Southern California, Ramsey enrolled at Florida State University. As a true freshman in college, he started all 14 games, the first player to do so since the legendary Dion Sanders and went on to help his team win the 2013 ACC Championship and the BCS National Championship. He recorded 49 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 interception and 1 pass breakup. As a sophomore, he was again an ACC champion, playing in 14 games and managing 80 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 12 pass breakups.
During this time, Jalen Ramsey had begun to grow into a confident young man. His stats and displays on the field meant he could trash talk opponents but most importantly, it signaled that he was ready to head to the NFL. Ramsey went on to play one more season of college football, recording 52 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, and 9 pass breakups before announcing his intention to forgo his senior year.
He attended the NFL Combine and cemented his projection of being a top ten draft pick by completing all the combine and positional drills and performed highly. When the time came, Ramsey was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 5th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft and the rest became history.
Why Was He Suspended?
Jalen Ramsey received his first suspension in the NFL on the 13th of August, 2018 after having stayed clear of disciplinary issues throughout his first two years in the league. The Jaguars suspended him for 1 whole week for ranting at the media following an altercation between teammates Dante Fowler Jr. and Yannick Ngakoue after practice. Ramsey first used profane language to blast the media for filming the incident before heading to Twitter to further criticize them.
In the statement regarding his suspension, the Jaguars said Ramsey was suspended for violating team rules and displaying conduct unbecoming of a Jaguars football player.
Is He Gay?
Like many other high profile people, the internet has suggested that Jalen Ramsey might be gay because of his supposed unmasculine-like body language and mannerism. The cornerback found himself to be the recipient of homophobic jokes after he was shown to be rolling his eyes, shrugging his shoulder, and flipping his hair in a lockerroom interview.
But to answer the question, Ramsey is not gay. If you need any proof, how about the fact that he is a father to a baby girl born in July 2018 with his girlfriend, Breanna Tate, the younger sister to Detroit Lions wide receiver .
