Having moved to the United States in 2006 as an ambitious teenager, Azalea eventually shot to prominence in August 2011 following the release of music videos off her debut mixtape Ignorant Art some of which went viral on the internet. The following year, the talented rapper earned a recording deal which effectively launched her into the mainstream music industry. Amethyst Amelia Kelly was born on June 7, 1990, in Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, Australia. However, she was raised in Mullumbimby, New South Wales. She derived the stage moniker “Iggy Azalea” from the name of her childhood dog and the street she grew up on. Her father Brendan Kelly is a visual artist while her mother Tanya earned a living by cleaning hotels and holiday homes. Having started rapping at the age of 14, Iggy Azalea tried forming a girl-group with 2 other girls from her neighborhood. However, she eventually went solo because the other girls didn’t take it seriously. In pursuit of her dream to relocate to the US, Azalea joined her mother’s line of work after dropping out of high school.
Iggy Azalea moved to the United States in 2006 and she spent brief periods in Miami and Houston before eventually settling in Atlanta, Georgia.
