Ryan Reaves is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who has earned so much fame through his skillful games with such hockey teams as St. Louis Blues and Pittsburgh Penguins. Ryan Reaves Biography
Ryan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on January 20, 1987. Born to an Afro-Canadian father Willard Reaves and mother Brenda Reaves, Reaves is Canadian and his ethnicity is Afro-Canadian. His father was known for his professional football skills as he played for the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL), at the time Ryan was born, his father was a member of a Canadian team called the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Ryan Reaves has a younger brother, Jordan who plays for the Saskatchewan Roughriders which is a Regina, Saskatchewan based professional Canadian football team that plays in the West Division of the Canadian Football League.
Talking about his educational background, Reaves attended St. John’s-Ravenscourt School where he got a better opportunity to begin his hockey game career by first playing for the schools’ team. It was also at the school that he built on his passion for ice hockey which he had nursed since his early age.
Career at NHL
Having started his career back in St. John’s-Ravenscourt of The Classical Academy High School (CAHS), Reaves made his NHL debut during the 2010-2011 season with the St. Louis Blues in round 5 (#156 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft but prior to that time, he was signed with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the major junior league called Western Hockey League (WHL) and with them, he spent three seasons. After his business with the St. Louis Blues, he moved to the Peoria Rivermen of AHL. but was later recalled from Peoria by the Blues on October 10, 2010. During his NHL debut in October 2010, Ryan was able to serve well up to 15 penalty minutes in the Blues’ 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. At the end of his seven seasons with the Blues, Reaves’ games totaled 27 goals, 51 points and nearly 700 penalty minutes.
On January 12, 2011, after playing two games with the Blues, he made a dramatic return to Peoria by scoring his first NHL goal on January 12, 2011. This was in a game against the Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender, Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks.
On June 23, 2017, the Large right wing enforcer was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins and there, he registered four goals and eight points through 58 games. Among the goals he scored was against the Vegas where he later moved to. Reaves was traded along with a second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Oskar Sundqvist and the Penguins’ first-round pick (31st overall) in the 2017 draft. He also gathered about 84 penalty minutes on the season.
On February 23, 2018, the Pittsburgh Penguins exchanged Reaves for the Vegas Golden Knights’ Tobias Lindberg and he scored a goal against the Winnipeg Jets that qualified his team for the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals.
