Kevin Anderson is best known as one of South Africa’s finest tennis player. The veteran tennis player formally kicked off his career at the young age of six and eventually entered his first professional tournament at the age of 17. Though the tournament was his only tournament that year, he made a mark for himself at the competition by winning four main-draw matches in the game.
The victories skyrocketed him to the world ranking of No. 1178 and he ended the year with a doubles ranking of No. 902, emerging one of tennis’ budding stars who wowed the audience at the event.
In 2008, Kevin became South Africa’s most respected male tennis player after he knocked down his opponents and finally made it to the final of Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas which took place in the same year.
Four years later, Anderson made history by defeating Somdev Devvarman in Johannesburg on February 6, 2011. This massive victory earned him the South African Open title for his first ever ATP-level event title. He went on to clinch his second ATP title in 2012, at the Delray Beach Open, where he brought renowned tennis player Marinko Matosevic to his knees.
Three years later, precisely in 2015, Anderson faced Pierre-Hugues Herbert at the Winston-Salem Open which after an intensely contested match, he successfully defeated him at the end of the game, earning his third ATP 250 championship.
The South African-born star won his fourth ATP World Tour title at the New York Open, in February 2018. He, however, lost to at the 2017 US Open, where made his Grand Slam final debut. His career-high ranking of world No. 7 in 2018 makes him the first South African to be placed in the top 10 ever since May 5, 1997, when Wayne Ferreira (a South African former professional tennis player) made it to the top 10.
