Alfred Joel Horford Reynoso, also known as Al Horford, is a Dominican professional basketball player known for playing for the Boston Celtics.
Popularly known as Al, the basketball player who signed a four-year deal with the Boston Celtics has become famous all over the city of Atlanta and beyond for his exceptional skill in the basketball field. This four-time All-Star remains one of Celtics’ best players finishing with the top record in the Eastern Conference.
Biography and Age
Al was born on June 3, 1986, as one of the five children to Tito Horford and his wife, Arelis Reynoso, in the city of San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. He grew up in a sports-loving family with his father who was a retired professional basketball player known for playing for the NBA for three years and for the Bucks for two years. One could not be far from the truth to say that Horford developed a passion for basketball mainly by watching his father play the game. Other players that seemingly inspired him in the game include were Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill and Tim Duncan. Interestingly, Al’s uncle, Kelly, also played for Florida Atlantic University.
Basketball Career
At the age of 14, Horford moved with his family to Lansing, Michigan, United States where he was enrolled into Grand Ledge High School in Grand Ledge, Michigan where he also began to exhibit his skills in the basketball game. As his school’s basketball star, he held seven amazing school records, including the highest career points with 1,239. In his senior class, he was named Class A Player of the Year after reaching an average of 21 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks per game. He also played for Michigan Mustangs in the AAU basketball and by 2007, after his team won the league for several years, he was declared in NBA draft.
After graduating from High School, Horford gained an athletic scholarship into the University of Florida based on his prolific performance in sports. There, he played for the Gator and through his efforts in the team’s frontcourt, they were able to win the 2005 Southern Conference Tournament championship. His team became the first to win the championship back-to-back and the first to do so with the same starting line-up. The young promising basketballer, however, dropped out in 2007 to play for the Atalanta Hawks and his first nine years in the team brought him massive success because it marked the beginning of his professional career.

He is said to earn up to $26.6 million as his annual salary and about $1.5 Million from endorsements. Having been NBA’s All-Star three times, Al Horford was named the NBA Shooting Stars champion in 2011. He has also represented his country and had won a Gold medal at the 2012 Centrobasket international competition.

Horford’s Family – Sister and Brother
Al Horford has two younger sisters – Anna Horford and Maria Horford- and two younger brothers Josh and Jonathon Kelly Horford. Jon followed in the footsteps of his father and older brother in pursuing a career as a basketballer. He plays for the Grand Rapids Drive of the NBA G League. He started in March 2010 by first playing for the University of Michigan, appearing in 29 games for the 2010 –11 Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team.
In 2015, after his graduation from Florida, Jon joined Indios de San Francisco de Macorís of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto. The following year, he signed a deal with Stella Artois Leuven Bears of the Belgian League. He, however, could not play a single game with them before returning to Canton for the 2016–17 season
Anna, on the other hand, is a social media star and a good fan of her two brothers. In mid-January 2018, she announced that she would be joining the CLNS Media Network and would be launching her podcast with the online provider.

Al Horford is married to former Miss Universe Amelia Vega. The couple exchanged their marital vows in 2011 December and are blessed with a son Ean in 2015 and a daughter Alia in 2016. They also announced in the January 2018 that they were expecting the their third child later in the year. Horford loves to spend much of his spare time with his family.
